  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests.
  • Develops comprehensive plans of care
  • Examines clients to obtain information about their physical condition
  • Instructs and counsels clients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance
  • Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal
  • Makes tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of clients
  • Obtains compiles and records client medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination
  • Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and infection management
  • Prescribes therapy or medication with physician approval
  • Visits and observes clients on hospital rounds or house calls, updating charts, ordering therapy, and reporting back to physician

 

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of assessment tools, interviewing, and physical examination techniques
  • Ability to formulate diagnosis based on examination and test results; Able to interpret test results, identify deviations from norms, and intervene or make appropriate referrals
  • Ability to assess, plan for, and provide basic nursing skills; knows procedures including developing, implementing and revising plan of care
  • Ability to prescribe certain medications as part of a treatment plan gaining physician approval when needed
  • Ability to document problems and/or needs identified from the treatment plan; competent in completing treatment plans
  • Ability to document treatment in electronic health record systems and to operate standard office equipment.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience: Certification to practice as a Physician’s Assistant through approval by the Georgia board of nursing.


Supervisory Responsibilities: None


Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  Some minor travel between Gateway sites is required.


Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop.  Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.  Must have the ability to sit for long periods of time at a computer.  Employee frequently uses fine hand/eye coordination, hearing and visual acuity.  Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant condition caused by noise, dust, etc. Employee must be able to travel between Gateway sites.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Skills Required

  • Certification to practice as a Physician Assistant approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing
  • Ability to perform clinical examinations and develop comprehensive plans of care
