About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced PHP Team Lead to take a critical leadership role in our Sportsbook division — leading complex, high-performance backend systems that serve millions of users globally. 

What You’ll Do

• Technical Leadership: Lead a high-performing team of PHP engineers, set technical direction, code quality standards, and architectural practices. 

• System Architecture: Design, evolve, and maintain scalable, distributed systems optimized for real-time betting operations and low-latency performance. 

• Hands-On Development: Actively contribute to core backend services using PHP, leveraging frameworks like Phalcon and Symfony to build robust APIs and microservices. 

• Mentorship & Growth: Coach and develop team members, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and accountability. 

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, DevOps, and data teams to deliver end-to-end solutions across the sportsbook ecosystem. 

• Performance & Reliability: Ensure high availability and responsiveness of backend systems by implementing caching, queuing, and streaming solutions to optimize throughput. 

• Strategic Contribution: Drive architectural decisions and technical roadmaps aligned with business objectives and growth strategy. 

Who You Are

• Experience: 7+ years of hands-on PHP development experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or senior technical role. 
• Technical Expertise: 
  • Advanced PHP & OOP skills, including deep knowledge of design patterns and clean code principles. 
  • Proven experience with Phalcon and/or Symfony frameworks. 
  • Strong background in real-time systems, Sockets, Queues, distributed data streams, and API integration. 
  • Expert-level understanding of Relational (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.). 
  • Experience with RabbitMQ and Kafka for messaging and streaming. 
  • Proficient in caching mechanisms such as Redis and Memcached. 
  • High proficiency with microservices and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes). 
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure). 
• Architecture & Design: Solid grasp of software architecture principles — capable of designing systems for scalability, fault tolerance, and performance optimization. 
• Full Stack Awareness: Understanding of frontend-backend interactions and how each layer impacts performance and reliability. 
• Soft Skills: Strong communicator, fluent in English, able to lead through influence and technical vision. 
• Mindset: Proactive, analytical, and business-oriented, with a passion for innovation in the iGaming and Sportsbook industry. 

Nice to Have 

• Experience in iGaming, Sportsbook, or real-time transaction-heavy systems. 
• Experience with Node.js
