About the Role:
We’re looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join our People Operations team and help us scale smarter. You’ll use platforms like Windsurf to build internal apps, automations, and lightweight AI-powered tools that make our work more efficient and impactful. You’ll collaborate closely with our People team to identify bottlenecks and opportunities, then prototype and ship tools to solve them—think dashboards, workflows, bots, or custom interfaces powered by LLMs.
This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys building real-world applications that solve immediate problems, has a strong foundation in software development, and is curious about the intersection of AI and operations.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
- Build internal tools and automations that streamline People Operations workflows
- Leverage LLMs and platforms like Windsurf to build AI-powered bots and dashboards
- Turn fuzzy problems into simple, intuitive tools that save time and unlock insights
- Help prototype and iterate on lightweight applications with rapid user feedback
- Use your technical skills to scale systems, not just processes
Example Projects:
- Create an internal HR bot employees can use to get answers to common questions
- Build a People Analytics tool that translates plain-text questions into dynamic reports
- Design a natural language search tool for historical candidate data that returns ranked, explainable results
- Automate workflows around onboarding, performance management, total rewards
What Makes You a Good Fit:
- Solid software engineering fundamentals and a commitment to clean, well-structured code
- Proficiency with Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript
- Experience developing web applications, internal tools, or backend services
- Familiarity with modern app platforms (e.g., Windsurf, Retool, Streamlit, or similar)
- Comfortable working with REST APIs, databases (Postgres, MySQL), and cloud environments (AWS or GCP)
- Excited about using LLMs and AI APIs (e.g. OpenAI) in practical ways
- A builder’s mindset—you love identifying inefficiencies and creating simple tools to fix them
- You’re a junior, senior, or MS-level student with relevant project or internship experience
Bonus Points For:
- Experience working in low-code/no-code environments or building internal tooling
- Exposure to large language models, embeddings, or vector databases
- A strong sense of UX and empathy for non-technical users
- Passion for making organizations more efficient and people’s lives at work easier
Compensation: The hourly rate for this position is $41/hr for Undergrad and $53/hr for Graduate students*. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. Interns are eligible to receive the following benefits: Paid vacation time, sick leave, holiday pay and 401K savings plan.
