Children’s Wisconsin is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Imaging team. This position will primarily support CT, with additional responsibilities in the Resource/Epic Imaging Nurse role.

Work Schedule:
24 hours/week (.6 FTE)
10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
No call. No weekends.

We are flexible on which three days per week the nurse works; however, the schedule must follow a consistent weekly pattern (e.g., Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Monday/Tuesday/Thursday).

Job Summary
The Imaging Pediatric nurse functions with demonstrated expertise in providing nursing care and/or consultation to the pediatric patients hospital-wide, who are cared for in the imaging department. The nurse is a recognized resource for consultation to nursing and physician services both within CHW and the community. The nurse is also expected to utilize the nursing process to assess patients prior to procedures or scans, prioritizing the need for and providing nursing care to patients undergoing procedures or exam within the Imaging Department. The nurse is expected to function within professional and hospital standards.
Essential Functions
- Utilizes a developmental approach to meet the individual needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and young adult patient.
- Clinical Judgment * Uses critical thinking and nursing skills in caring for patients and families which are acquired through a process of integrating education, experiential knowledge and evidence-based guidelines. * Develops, implements and evaluates a plan of care that is collaborative and addresses the needs of the patient and family resulting in optimal patient outcomes.
- Caring Practices * Responds to the uniqueness of patients and families by providing and coordinating care that meets those needs. * Creates a compassionate therapeutic environment to promote comfort and prevent suffering. * Acts within professional boundaries as per ANA code of ethics and organization code of conduct.
- Response to Diversity * Recognizes, appreciates, and incorporates differences in the provision of care. * Utilizes communication skills that are respectful and non-discriminatory in a manner that is therapeutic for both the patient and the family. * Incorporates patient/family values, cultural beliefs, and religious preferences in the nursing plan of care.

- Advocacy/Moral Agency * Serves as a moral agent on behalf of the patient/family. * Advocates for the concerns of the patient/family/community. * Assesses needs of patient/family for discharge; individualizes plans for discharge; identifies and coordinates necessary and available resources to accomplish timely discharge; accountable for completion of discharge teaching.
- Facilitation of Learning * Facilitates patient, family and staff learning and community education. * Integrates teaching and patient/family learning throughout delivery of care, including evaluation using measurable outcomes and assessment of health literacy. * Identifies personal goals and seeks opportunities to pursue professional growth guided by the Synergy Behavioral Anchored Rating Scale (BARS).
- Collaboration * Works in partnership with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal and realistic outcomes for the best interest of the patient/family. * Evaluates what nursing care tasks can be appropriately delegated given Wisconsin statutes scope of practice for the registered nurse as well as established competencies for the technical staff that will complete the task * Coordinates care in conjunction with other care givers, physicians and other disciplines; acts as a resource/advocate to others for specific patients/families.
- Systems Thinking * Supports the mission and strategic initiatives of the hospital. * Demonstrates awareness of the holistic interrelationships that exist within and across health care systems. * Identifies and works toward the accomplishment of personal, unit/area and division of nursing goals. * Works with leaders to identify possible areas for operational and capital budgeting considerations.
- Unit Specific * Provides nursing care to patients undergoing exams or scans within the Imaging department. * Coordinates patient care and assists in providing seamless patient care before, during and after exams and procedures, including, but not limited to, those requiring procedural sedation and having the potential to be high risk. * Assesses and responds to patient’s needs including: appropriateness of procedure, sedation or treatment modalities. * Makes recommendations for procedural changes, assesses and responds to patient needs before, during and after procedures or treatments. * Administers procedural sedation by assessing and administering prescribed medications, monitoring patient closely and initiating rescue medication per sedation policy guidelines. * Identifies needs and coordinates activities to resolve issues and improve care of the imaging patient; acts as a patient/family advocate and promotes a family-centered care. * Provides education to parents/guardians regarding sedation, including: risks, benefits and common side-effects. Provides formal teaching of discharge education post-sedation and post-procedure.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an ADN or a BSN in order to meet the recommended entry level for a professional nurse (or equivalent academic and/or professional experience) required
- Bachelor's Degree BSN preferred
Experience:
- 1+ years nursing experience in critical care/emergency room and/or pediatric sedation required or
- 3+ years of general pediatric nursing experience. required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles of neonatal, pediatric and adolescent growth and development and child/family responses to fear, illness, injury and hospitalization.
- Analytical skills that are necessary to assess complex patient conditions effectively and to develop comprehensive plans of care. Synthesizes multiple sources of information to assist in the resolution of human responses to complex problems.
- Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with interdisciplinary health team members and consumers.
- The ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services.
- Mental and sensory abilities to read, process and interpret clinical data..
- Ability to have flexible hours and be on-call for Interventional Radiology or MRI to meet patient care needs.
- Assists in setting expected standards of performance within the Imaging Department. Contributes to the evaluation of orientation and on-going staff development needs
- Ability to coordinate and deliver complex care utilizing a multidisciplinary approach.
- Ability to operate, interpret and trouble-shoot a wide variety of patient care equipment.
Licenses and Certifications:
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
- License RN-Registered Nurse (30) - State of Wisconsin

- PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
- License RN-Registered Nurse (FL Compact) - State of Florida
