Join the nationally recognized team at Children’s Wisconsin as a Part-Time Pediatric MRI Nurse, where you’ll make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and families every day.

Work Schedule :

  • 0.6 FTE: 3-8‑hour shifts per pay period

  • 1100 a.m.-700 p.m.

Call Requirements

  • 2–3 call days per month

  • One holiday per year

  • Weekend call is every 12 weeks

What you will do:

The Imaging Pediatric nurse functions with demonstrated expertise in providing nursing care and/or consultation to the pediatric patients hospital-wide, who are cared for in the imaging department.  The nurse is a recognized resource for consultation to nursing and physician services both within CHW and the community.  The nurse is also expected to utilize the nursing process to assess patients prior to procedures or scans, prioritizing the need for and providing nursing care to patients undergoing procedures or exam within the Imaging Department.  The nurse is expected to function within professional and hospital standards.

Responsibilities:

• Provides nursing care to patients undergoing exams or scans within the Imaging department.

• Coordinates patient care and assists in providing seamless patient care before, during and after exams and procedures, including, but not limited to, those requiring procedural sedation and having the potential to be high risk.

• Assesses and responds to patient’s needs including appropriateness of procedure, sedation or treatment modalities.

• Makes recommendations for procedural changes, assesses and responds to patient needs before, during and after procedures or treatments.

• Administers procedural sedation by assessing and administering prescribed medications, monitoring patient closely and initiating rescue medication per sedation policy guidelines.

• Identifies needs and coordinates activities to resolve issues and improve care of the imaging patient; acts as a patient/family advocate and promotes a family-centered care.

• Provides education to parents/guardians regarding sedation, including: risks, benefits and common side effects. Provides formal teaching of discharge education post-sedation and post-procedure.

What you will need:

  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council

  • License RN-Registered Nurse (30) - State of Wisconsin

  • PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an ADN or a BSN in order to meet the recommended entry level for a professional nurse (or equivalent academic and/or professional experience)

  • 1 year nursing experience in critical care/emergency room and/or pediatric sedation or 3 years general pediatric nursing experience

Skills Required

  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or National Safety Council
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an ADN, BSN, or equivalent academic or professional experience
  • One year of critical care, emergency room, or pediatric sedation nursing experience, or three years of general pediatric nursing experience
