Overview:

Perform all necessary payroll activities for assigned section of employees.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with HR Direct in providing excellent customer service to employees.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to HR Direct regarding employees’ pay, time, leave and other time off.
  • Process manual adjustments (off-cycle pay) as requested, creating and reviewing retroactive pay transactions. Prepare necessary TES, WebGL, and Infocus transactions.
  • Review daily audit of other payroll staff as assigned.
  • Adjust affected time off buckets for scheduled hours changes.
  • Review and complete retroactive transactions.
  • Review and assure the accuracy of leave dates and pay related to leaves.
  • Review and make necessary adjustments to terminated employees’ final pay, including PTO and floating holiday, vacation buy, and conversion pay.
  • Perform tasks required for setting up an employee on severance, including paying out additional PTO and setting up the actual severance pay.
  • Prepare manual checks as needed.
  • File payroll documents accurately each day.
  • Sort and distribute payroll mail items.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned. These may include garnishment processing, ACH reject processing, creation of payroll EIBs, reconciliations, settlement of payroll taxes.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Performs verification of the payroll activities for assigned section of the Bank.
  • Position works under direct supervision.

Education and Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum two years of large company payroll/accounting/human resources experience.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office.
  • Solid mathematical and problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Payroll tax experience.
  • Payroll software experience.
  • Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact with all levels of Bank personnel in a professional manner.
  • Strong knowledge of bank policies and procedures relating to employees’ pay and time off.
