What You Will Do:

As a Payroll Specialist, your primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform daily Payroll department operations, which includes processing of garnishments, levies, and friend of the court orders.

  • Manage daily workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed timely and accurately.

  • Communicates regularly with Payroll, Human Resources, and Finance managers to ensure that all employee records and accounts are accurate.

  • Ensures that all benefits and insurance premiums are deducted accurately from paychecks.

  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports.

  • Adheres to all state and federal regulations for payroll processing.

  • Maintain data integrity in HRIS and payroll systems daily.

  • Resolves any discrepancies surrounding payroll issues.

  • Responds to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or concerns within 24 hours on non-payroll processing days.

  • Keeps up to date on changes in company tax status on a regular basis.

  • Assists Finance department, as needed, in preparing for audits.

  • Maintain and document all payroll records daily.

  • Conduct semi-annual audits of all payroll records.

  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting.

  • Assisting with the annual open enrollment process.

  • Regular maintenance of personnel and I9 files.

  • Responds, as needed, to employment verifications within 24 hours on non-payroll processing days.

Expected Hours of Work: Full time position, onsite in our Lansing office. Extended hours and weekends may apply.
 

Travel: Minimal travel required. Majority of travel done during work hours; overnight stays may be required.

What You Will Bring to the Team:

Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:

  • Associate’s Degree in Business or related job field.

  • Two (2) years of experience in payroll and benefits.

  • -or- Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

Preferred experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related job field.

  • Two (2) or more years of experience with job costing, prevailing wage, and union environments.

  • Solid knowledge of FMLA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other benefits-related regulations.

  • Proven ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity, and handle, update, and maintain sensitive information in a confidential, timely, and professional manner.

  • High level of accuracy and advanced attention to detail.

  • Ability to relate to all kinds of people, build appropriate rapport, use diplomacy and tact, encourage collaboration, and solicit opinions and feedback.

  • Exceptional mathematical skills with the ability to analyze, evaluate, and reconcile.

  • Knowledge of payroll, garnishments, and benefit distribution.

  • Excellent research and analysis skills.

  • Knowledge of payroll software as well as Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Skills Required
