Payroll Specialist

Responsible for ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and organizational payroll regulations. This role manages payroll processing, reviews employee time and attendance records, maintains payroll data, and responds to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, and benefits. Working closely with Human Resources and Finance, the Payroll Specialist helps ensure payroll accuracy, supports audits and reporting, and protects the confidentiality of employee information. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to excellent customer service are essential to supporting Midland Care Connection's mission of caring for employees so they can provide exceptional care to the communities they serve.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of payroll processing experience
  • Working knowledge of payroll laws, wage and hour regulations, and payroll tax requirements
  • Experience using payroll and timekeeping software
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with HR and Finance teams

Preferred

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
  • Experience with Paycom, or other HRIS/payroll systems
  • Experience processing payroll in a healthcare or nonprofit environment
  • Knowledge of employee benefits deductions, garnishments, and payroll reporting
  • Experience with payroll audits and year-end processing (W-2s, tax reconciliation)
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
