Position Overview
LSB Industries is seeking a high-performing Payroll Specialist take full ownership of payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a seamless employee experience. This position reports under Treasury (Finance/Accounting side).
The ideal candidate will bring strong payroll expertise, reporting and analytical skills, and a professional, solutions-oriented approach to rebuild confidence in payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Compliance
- Process biweekly payroll for ~560 employees accurately and on time with minimal oversight.
- Review personnel action forms (PAFs), verify timesheets, overtime, and special pay adjustments.
- Reconcile payroll registers and correct discrepancies before submission.
- Complete funding requests and upload HRIS interface files to accounting software (currently Paycom → JDE).
- Maintain compliance with SOX standards, federal/state payroll regulations, and company policies.
- Tax notice research and resolution support
Employee Support & Reporting
- Act as the primary point of contact for payroll inquiries, ensuring professional and timely resolution.
- Prepare biweekly, monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc payroll reports for HR, Finance, and leadership.
- Process and track garnishments, levies, child support orders, and remit union dues.
- Support quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, year-end activities (W-2 distribution, fringe reporting), and audit requests.
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
- Identify opportunities to improve and automate payroll processes.
- Maintain and update payroll SOPs for consistency and audit readiness.
- Serve as a backup to Treasury/HR team members when needed, particularly benefits invoice processing.
- Assist with upcoming payroll system selection (2026) and support implementation in 2027.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Payroll Accuracy: 0 off-cycle payrolls due to processing errors.
- Timeliness: No late payrolls or HRIS provider penalties.
- Audit Readiness: Clean audits with no identified payroll deficiencies.
Employee Experience: Positive feedback and timely resolution of payroll inquiries.
Qualifications- Minimum 3 years of hands-on payroll experience (multi-state preferred).
- Proficiency in Paycom or other HRIS systems (must be adaptable to future system change).
- Mid-level Excel skills — ability to pull, analyze, and report on employee data.
- Strong reporting, analytical, and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
Preferred
- Payroll tax experience.
- Multi-state payroll experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field.
