We're seeking an experienced Payroll Market Unit Lead to join our Global Shared Services organisation.
In this critical leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing payroll delivery across multiple European countries, ensuring payroll operations are accurate, compliant, and aligned with both local requirements and global standards.
Acting as the key interface between local payroll teams, HR, Finance, Global Shared Services and external payroll providers, you will play a central role in ensuring operational excellence while driving standardisation, compliance and continuous improvement across the payroll function.
You will lead a team of 4-6 payroll professionals and be responsible for payroll operations across Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Baltics and the Czech Republic.

Key ResponsibilitiesMulti-Country Payroll Leadership- Own end-to-end payroll delivery across the Market Unit, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance
- Oversee payroll operations across Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Baltics and the Czech Republic
- Act as the escalation point for complex payroll matters, corrections and employee enquiries
- Coordinate payroll calendars, cut-offs and dependencies with HR, Finance and payroll providers
- Ensure alignment between local payroll execution and global payroll standards
- Ensure compliance with local labour laws, tax regulations and statutory reporting requirements
- Oversee payroll audits, controls and documentation
- Partner with HR, Finance and Legal teams on regulatory changes and risk mitigation
- Ensure accurate application of pay elements, benefits, deductions and statutory payments
- Lead, coach and develop a team of 4-6 payroll professionals
- Ensure appropriate capacity planning, succession coverage and operational resilience
- Drive standardisation of payroll processes, controls and documentation
- Foster a strong service-oriented culture and payroll expertise within the team
- Act as the primary liaison between the Market Unit, Global Shared Services and payroll providers
- Monitor SLAs, KPIs, service quality and issue resolution effectiveness
- Support payroll system changes, upgrades and process improvements
- Provide structured feedback and local market expertise to global teams
- Identify opportunities for process simplification, automation and risk reduction
- Support implementation of new payroll tools, controls and digital solutions
- Drive a consistent employee payroll experience across locations
- Contribute to payroll transformation and operational excellence initiatives
- 7-10 years of payroll experience within complex multi-country environments
- Proven experience managing payroll operations across multiple European countries
- Strong expertise in Dutch payroll legislation, processes and compliance requirements
- Experience working within a Shared Services, Global Business Services or HR Operations environment
- Previous leadership experience within payroll operations, including team management and development
- Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, controls and statutory requirements
- Experience managing payroll vendors and service delivery relationships
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across HR, Finance and operational teams
- Experience with payroll systems and HRIS platforms (Workday preferred)
- Flexibility to support payroll operations across multiple countries and time zones
- Willingness to support audits, payroll deadlines and critical payroll cycles
- Ability to operate effectively within a complex international organisation
