JOB SUMMARY: This incumbent is responsible for managing, planning, and directing the activities of the payroll team to ensure efficient and accurate operation of the payroll function for the company in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.  This incumbent will have oversight and responsibility for all aspects of payroll processing for multi-state employee base while serving as a key partner to HR, Finance, and third-party providers.


JOB ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly (hourly and salaried) and special (bonus and commission) payrolls for all employees in multi-state locations.
  2. Oversees continuous improvement for all payroll processes including status changes, garnishments, direct deposits, etc.
  3. Provides support, training, mentoring, and development to reporting staff on an ongoing basis to ensure the department performs at a maximum performance level.
  4. Plans, schedules, and manages the staff to promote efficiency in completing their job responsibilities.
  5. Oversees all year-end Payroll activities
  6. Provide day-to-day support to employees and managers regarding payroll issues and handles escalated payroll issues.
  1. Oversees handling of tax notices and agency inquiries regarding tax issues.
  2. Ensure data integrity across payroll, timekeeping, and HR systems.
  3. Lead payroll projects including system implementations, upgrades, and process optimization. 
  1. Partner with HRIS and Finance on system updates, enhancements, and issue resolutions.
  2. Partner with Benefits, Compensation, Finance, and HR Operations on cross-functional processes.
  3. Prepare payroll-related reports for Finance, HR, and leadership.
  4. Collaborate, coordinate, and communicate across disciplines and departments.
  1. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, and Training):

    • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree.
    • A minimum of 3 years payroll supervisory work experience, including a working knowledge of how to execute payroll processing in an accurate and timely manner. Prior work with multi state reporting is required
    • 7-10 years payroll experience.
    • Certified Payroll Professional Preferred.
    • Required licensures, professional certifications, and/or Board certifications as applicable
    • Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll and payroll taxation including local taxes.
    • Knowledge of legal compliance requirements as they pertain to Payroll and HR programs
    • Ability to use software and peripherals related to performance of job responsibilities
    • Communication, process management, analytical, decision making, organizational, project management, negotiating, time management
    • Ability to lead and direct teams
    • Ability to implement changes effectively throughout organization
    • Ability to facilitate teams and client relationships to satisfy needs and identify improvements
    • Ability to develop strong relationships with all levels of management
    • Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to demonstrate commitment to excellent customer service and follow through
    • Ability to produce reports and correspondence,
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external customers
    • Ability to be flexible and creative in problem solving and identifying program improvements
    • Able to maintain strict confidentiality while working with sensitive information
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

     

The salary range for this position is $75K to $85K. Specific offers take into account a candidate's education, experience and skills, as well as the candidate's work location and internal equity. This position is also eligible for health insurance, 401k and bonus opportunity.

Skills Required

  • 7-10 years of progressive payroll experience including multi-state payroll
  • 3 years of payroll supervisory experience
  • 3-5 years of HRIS experience
  • Experience with ADP Enterprise Version 5 and E*Time
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
