As Payroll Manager, you'll oversee daily payroll operations, ensure regulatory compliance, manage departmental resources, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the employee experience. What You'll Do:
- Lead the daily operations of the Payroll department while ensuring alignment with MaineGeneral Health's strategic goals and financial objectives.
- Manage, coach, and develop payroll staff, fostering a collaborative, customer-focused, and high-performing team environment.
- Oversee all payroll processes to ensure employees are paid accurately, timely, and in compliance with federal, state, and organizational requirements.
- Assist in developing departmental goals, performance standards, and operational objectives that support organizational priorities.
- Monitor departmental budgets and ensure responsible stewardship of financial resources.
- Ensure compliance with payroll regulations, organizational policies, and applicable labor and tax requirements.
- Manage departmental contracts, vendor relationships, and payroll-related service providers.
- Evaluate, recommend, and oversee the acquisition and maintenance of payroll systems, equipment, and departmental resources.
- Monitor system performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and service delivery.
- Partner with Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, and organizational leaders to resolve payroll issues and support operational initiatives.
- Lead or support special projects, reporting initiatives, process improvements, and business analysis as assigned.
What You'll Bring:
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Progressive payroll leadership experience, preferably within healthcare or another complex, multi-site, and multi-state organization.
- Strong knowledge of payroll processing, payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and payroll compliance requirements.
- Experience supervising and developing payroll professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to manage payroll systems, vendor relationships, and operational budgets.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Experience with enterprise payroll, Workday, and HRIS systems preferred.
