Job Summary: 

The internship position within the payroll department of The Standard will focus on supporting payroll operations while gaining exposure to related finance and accounting activities. The goal of the internship is to apply classroom knowledge and any prior payroll, tax, accounting, or business experience to real-world situations while learning how payroll processes support employees, producers, and the broader organization.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Learn payroll operations, processes, controls, terminology, and service standards while gaining an understanding of end-to-end payroll administration.
  • Assist with payroll data validation, reconciliations, reporting, and analytical reviews to support accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Support payroll-related research, issue resolution, documentation, audit requests, and cross-functional coordination with key business partners.
  • Contribute to payroll process improvement, automation, workflow documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and controls.
  • Apply payroll, compensation, tax, accounting, or analytical knowledge to assigned projects and operational responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with Payroll, Producer Services, Accounting, Tax, and business leaders while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and accuracy when handling sensitive information and completing other assigned duties.

During the duration of the internship the candidate will be assigned to one manager to oversee their day-to-day work, however, there may be opportunities to work with several different teams in the division. The work will be conducted in an all-virtual remote environment.   


Qualifications: 

  • Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students for the duration of the internship. Rising sophomores, juniors, seniors and students pursuing advanced degrees are welcome to apply.
  • Sponsorship is not available for this internship opportunity.
  • Preferred majors in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Strong analytical skills as demonstrated by previous work experience, and/or course of study.
  • Experience working with MSOffice suite including Excel, Teams, Outlook. Experience in AI tools preferred.

  • Interns are provided with all necessary equipment (i.e., laptop, monitor) needed to work from home and will attend the company’s virtual First Day Orientation to gain a deeper understanding of the company. 

Compensation:

  • Individual pay rates will be determined based upon current student status (i.e. Sophomore, Junior, Senior).
