The Role
Develop and manage Corston’s in-house patent capability by identifying patent opportunities, drafting and prosecuting applications, managing UK, European, and US filing strategies, and shaping the company’s broader IP strategy. The role partners closely with product, engineering, and manufacturing teams, monitors competitors, supports international manufacturing activities, and coaches colleagues on patent processes.
Summary Generated by Built In
At Corston, we design and manufacture premium architectural products that combine timeless design with exceptional functionality. From switches and sockets to hardware and lighting, every detail is carefully considered.

What started as a challenger brand has evolved into an international business operating across Europe, the UAE and America. We are currently generating approximately £5 million in monthly revenue, have experienced significant growth over recent years, and continue to invest heavily in product innovation, manufacturing excellence and international expansion.
Today, our teams operate from our headquarters in Malmesbury, alongside major offices in Poland and Chicago. As our product portfolio continues to grow, protecting the intellectual property behind that innovation has become increasingly important to the long-term success of the business.

The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Patent Attorney to help strengthen and develop Corston's in-house patent capability.
Working directly with David Gray and our Product team, you'll be responsible for identifying patent opportunities, drafting patent applications and helping shape our wider intellectual property strategy.
This isn't a traditional private-practice role. Instead, you'll work closely with the people designing and developing products, helping protect innovation from concept through to market.
The role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact within a fast-growing, product-led business while enjoying a flexible working arrangement.

  • Draft and prepare patent applications and supporting documentation.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear and effective patent language.
  • Lead patent drafting activities for new product innovations.
  • Develop and manage filing strategies across the UK, Europe and the United States.
  • Drive Corston's overall patent and IP protection strategy.
  • Coach and support Daria in patent processes and best practice.
  • Work closely with product development, engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Monitor competitor activity and identify opportunities to strengthen Corston's IP portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Qualification as a UK Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney or equivalent.
  • Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Strong knowledge of UK, European and US patent systems.
  • A background in engineering, electronics, manufacturing or product-led environments.
  • Excellent written communication and technical drafting skills.
  • A commercial mindset and ability to balance legal and business objectives.
  • Experience working with international manufacturing environments, ideally including China.

Benefits
  • Flexible, part-time working arrangement (2-3 days per week)
  • Flexibility around working hours, including arrangements that can work around childcare or other commitments
  • Opportunity to shape and build Corston's in-house patent capability
  • Direct access to senior leadership, reporting to David Gray
  • Work with an innovative, product-led business experiencing significant growth
  • Exposure to a diverse range of products and technologies
  • Collaborative and entrepreneurial working environment
  • Competitive salary
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (pro rata)
  • Company pension scheme
  • Employee discount on Corston products (50%)
We'd love to hear from experienced Patent Attorneys who are excited by innovation, product development and the opportunity to help shape the future of intellectual property at Corston.
