How Is This Role Important to Our Work?

This position will collaborate with other internal departments and associates across the enterprise, to efficiently and effectively manage daily tasks and projects relating to the organization’s compliance with the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA), its regulations, and state laws and requirements incorporating the MHPAEA. This position will report to the Director and Lead Counsel, Mental Health Parity Compliance. Requires expertise in developing and maintaining strong business relationships, and collaborating with cross-functional, cross-divisional stakeholders to achieve desired objectives within tight deadlines.

A Day in the Life:

  • Identifies key issues to assist other parity compliance team members and business owners.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing cross functional and cross departmental activities to educate on and document compliance with the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act and its regulations (MHPAEA).
  • Develops and continually updates program or project plans, timelines, and deliverables while coordinating multiple sub-processes to develop, expand, and improve parity compliance comparative analyses.
  • Drives to and delivers high quality solutions with aggressive timeframes and high-level stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Develops and implements a communication plan in conjunction with leadership to support the initiative including communicating to key internal stakeholders.
  • Ensures written mental health parity standards, policies and procedures are reviewed and refined in collaboration with internal subject matter experts and key business leaders.
  • Attends applicable committee meetings of enterprise stakeholders to regularly review changes in policy, payment, strategy, and operations that may impact mental health parity.
  • Develops and maintain an organizational mental health parity documentation repository detailing Blue Cross’s operating model, processes, and best practices related to parity.
  • Develops and directs all preparation for deliverables, audits, and responses to inquiries relating to the MHPAEA.
  • Oversee the internal monitoring and compliance reviews, corrective action, and related remediation.
  • Manage escalated Mental Health Parity inquiries from either state/federal regulators or internal business partners.
  • Review and update behavioral health parity related training, communication, and education as needed.

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • 8+ years of related professional experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.
  • Experience managing complicated projects, keeping track of details, and staging work to deliver projects on time.
  • Proven ability to articulate regulatory requirements to business and technical staff to capture information and achieve results.
  • Analytical skills/critical thinking skills; ability to identify potential risks and their impact to the functioning and operations of all divisions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal and relationship skills; experience communicating effectively across multiple departments and with all levels of an organization.
  • High-level of skill in leading interdepartmental and cross-functional strategy development; experience managing multiple projects to ensure corporate deadlines and objectives are met. 
  • Excellent consultation and advisory skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and focus on process and quality.
  • Proven self-starter, can work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Intellectually curious; proven willingness and eagerness to take on new and challenging projects with interest and enthusiasm for learning new subjects.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and to identify matters requiring escalation or special attention.
  • Ability to keep confidentiality.
  • Solid knowledge and skills working in a computer-based office suite environment, Microsoft Windows (Word, Excel, etc.), Microsoft Sharepoint, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Nice to Have:

  • Masters of Public Health or Social Work, licensed social worker, licensed practical nurse, or registered nurse.
  • Experience in a health care environment.
  • Understanding of provider network, medical policy, utilization management, and health benefit products.
  • Experience in state and federal compliance requirements, including across medical, behavioral, and pharmacy benefits/products.

Role Designation:

Teleworker

Role designation definition: Teleworking is working full time remote. Hybrid is a combination of working onsite and remotely. Onsite is full-time onsite.
