General Summary:Provides experienced paralegal assistance to attorneys.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conducts legal research and analysis as assigned.
• Locates information for attorneys and other internal and external authorities.
• Reviews, analyzes, summarizes and organizes documents as needed.
• Prepares draft responses of legal documents.
• Ensures that legal documentation is processed in compliance with legal requirements.
• Assists with large projects and assists other paralegals with their workload as necessary.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Litigation/Dedicated Legal Resource

• General knowledge of company’s products and procedures.
• General knowledge of legal issues involving group and/or individual policies and claims.
• Interview and interact with company employees and exercise the judgment to coordinate appropriately with in house and outside counsel as needed.

Employment Law (Leave)

• Reviews advanced laws and regulations to determine necessary changes for Absence Operations.
• Monitors proposed state and federal legislation and performs analysis on and compilation of various laws pertaining to Company business, disseminates the analysis of information and updates systems.
• Assists Compliance Managers with workload as necessary.

Job Specifications

• High school diploma
• A minimum of some paralegal or law school courses or five (5) years of paralegal experience or equivalent college degree/experience
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal relation skills
• Strong word processing, math and research skills
• Strong judgment
• Ability to mentor and/or training individuals
• Ability to work on multiple matters/projects simultaneously
• Litigation or employment law experience preferred.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$45,600.00-$86,200.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
