This temporary position is located at 114 W Edenton St - Wake County.  This position is assigned to the Department of Justice.

 
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $23.45 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).  
 
Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification.  The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.  

Management Preferences:  

The person selected for this position must be able to handle a high-volume caseload and must have multitasking skills. This position provides complex litigation support to attorneys whose practice is primarily in the North Carolina Industrial Commission. 

Job Duties: These duties must be performed within certain allotted time periods.

  • Prepare legal documents.
  • Determine, locate, and organize exhibits.
  • Locate, and interview witnesses to determine their availability, testimony, and the value of such testimony in a court hearing.
  • Coordinate depositions of key witnesses.
  • Compile information and documents in order to prepare for responsive pleadings and respond to discovery requests.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Working knowledge of case, statutory and common law. Working knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and the rules of evidence. Knowledge of the program area or legal specialty assigned. Ability to perform legal research, investigatory work, summarize facts and evidence, prepare legal documents, including responsive pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses. Ability to summarize facts and evidence, and prepare legal instruments. Ability to communicate clearly and logically in oral and written form. Ability to utilize technology in research and writing assignments. Ability to create spreadsheets to capture and analyze data. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from an appropriately accredited institution for paralegal training; or Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of substantive paralegal experience; or High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and five years of paralegal experience performing delegated, substantive legal work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
