Key Responsibilities - Cross-Functional Legal Department Support:
- Corporate Legal Support: Assist with general legal research, document management, and administrative tasks and projects needed to support all in-house attorneys.
- Financial Services Compliance & Policy Support: Assist with researching and monitoring federal, state, and federal financial services laws (e.g., Fair Lending, GLBA, TILA, FCRA, FDCPA, ECOA, and CFPB regulations) to help ensure company policy compliance.
- Employment Law Compliance & Policy Support: Assist with researching and monitoring federal, state, and local labor and employment laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEOA, and EECO regulations) to help ensure company policy compliance.
- Contract Administration: Assist with drafting, reviewing, and revising standard agreements (NDA’s, MSA’s, PSA’s, vendor contracts, SOW’s, etc.) as well as employment-related agreements (employment agreements, severance agreements, executive compensation, etc.) under attorney supervision.
- Investigation Support: Assist in internal reviews and investigations, including gathering relevant documents, coordinating interviews, and maintaining confidential records.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Act as liaison between Legal and departments such as Finance, Operations, HR, IT, and Compliance.
Key Responsibilities - II. Litigation Support
- Discovery Management: Assist with in-house discovery, including legal holds, document collection, review (including e-discovery platforms), and production for arbitrations and lawsuits.
- Case Management: Maintain and organize litigation files, calendars, and dockets; track deadlines; and monitor case statuses for all pending matters.
- Pleading Support: Draft, review, and finalize routine pleadings (e.g., answers, notices), discovery requests and responses, affidavits, and other legal documents under attorney supervision.
- Trial/Hearing Preparation: Assist with internal preparation for trials, arbitrations, mediations, and hearings, including witness preparation, exhibit assembly, demonstratives, and deposition summaries.
- Legal Research: Conduct legal and factual research using LexisNexis, Westlaw, and other databases on various legal subjects.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree.
- Paralegal certification or certificate from an ABA accredited program strongly preferred.
- Minimum 4-5+ years of experience as a paralegal, with a strong background in litigation and labor & employment law, preferably in an in-house corporate legal department and/or a reputable law firm.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong Legal Research Skills: Proficient in PACER, state court dockets, and other legal research databases and sources (e.g., LexisNexis, CounselorLibrary).
- Analytical and Decision Making: Demonstrated ability and comfort in providing recommendations.
- Excellent Drafting Abilities: Ability to draft clear, concise, and grammatically correct legal documents and other communications.
- Exceptional Organizational Skills: Meticulous attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills across communications platforms; ability to effectively build relationships and interact professionally with all levels of the organization and external parties.
- Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Discretion & Confidentiality: Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion and integrity.
- Advanced Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and document management systems, such as Box.
