HANAC, Inc. is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization founded in 1972 to serve vulnerable populations. The Legal Victim & Witness Program provides direct legal and case management support to individuals navigating the civil, criminal, and immigration systems.
Position Summary
The Paralegal & Case Manager Specialist provides comprehensive legal and case management support to the Program Attorney and Program Director. This role manages client cases primarily focused on immigration and victim services—including OVS restitution, family law, U-Visas, VAWA, T-Visas, and Asylum.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Case Management: Manage assigned caseloads from intake through resolution, maintaining detailed, confidential records in CLIO and Cerenade. Track deadlines, daily action items, and client outcomes.
- Legal Drafting & Filings: Draft, proofread, and assemble legal documents, affidavits, and immigration/family court filing packages under attorney supervision. Conduct legal research and prepare summaries.
- Field & Court Support: Travel to NYC Courts, police precincts, and government agencies for filings and hearings. Assist clients in gathering vital evidence, including police and court records.
- Client & Agency Coordination: Communicate regularly with clients, law enforcement, courts, and service providers. Coordinate external referrals, as well as translation and interpreter services.
- Program Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to client confidentiality, program guidelines, and administrative reporting requirements.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent training/experience) and 2–4 years of paralegal or non-profit/human services experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and hands-on experience with case management systems (CLIO and Cerenade).
- Requirements: Excellent organizational and communication skills, ability to manage high-priority deadlines, valid I-9 work authorization, and completion of a background check/fingerprinting.
- Preferences: Prior experience with U-Visas, VAWA, T-Visas, or Asylum cases and an active Notary Public license are a plus.
