Overall Summary:

As an Optometrist under the general supervision of the Vision Program Director, you will be enlisted to perform all routine vision and ocular examinations in order to provide appropriate corrections and diagnoses. Your core responsibilities will include; prescribing lenses and necessary correction alternatives; treating abnormal conditions within the scope of optometry and referring to specialists when deemed appropriate. You will also be expected to train assistants in performing optometric duties and attend regular staff meetings.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of Vision Program Director, Optometrist performs a variety of complex, professional, analytical, and confidential vision services. 


Duties include:

  • Diagnose and correct refractive errors including; nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and amblyopia 
  • Prescribe eyeglasses and ocular medications
  • Order and interpret tests needed to detect and appropriately manage common ocular disorders such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, red eye, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
  • Evaluate patients for the presence of diseases such as hypertension and diabetes and refer patients to other healthcare providers as needed
  • Proficient in documentation of clinical findings and assessment and plan
  • Promote eye health by counseling patients 
  • Co-manage and refer ocular conditions outside of scope of optometry

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assume general administration duties including fax, filing, copying, etc.
  • Attend webinars, workshops, training and/or meetings as requested by Vision Program Director.
  • Perform special project research and data collection activities as requested by Vision Program Director; analyze and interpret data, and prepare reports.
  • Coordinate special staff events and prepares and distributes promotional flyers for such events. 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Maintains all licensing requirements for the State of California
  • Board certified with TPA and TLG/TPG Glaucoma certification
  • Graduate of a school or college of Optometry, accredited by State Board of Optometry
  • Two (2) years of experience preferred
  • Bilingual preferred 

Work Conditions:

  • Travel locally to visit other sites, may require a day or overnight trip to attend events; workload may be demanding at times; require professionalism and confidentiality.
Physical Demands:

This position requires:

  • Sitting, walking, and standing associated with a normal medical, clinical and administrative office environment, with some bending, reaching, stretching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for tasks involving standard office equipment and computer keyboard, including repetitive movements, such as typing.
  • Traveling to work sites, including some exposure to outside elements.
  • Exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations, requiring adherence to extensive safety precautions and possibly the use of protective equipment.
