Compensation

The base hourly rate for this position is $25.01.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT SUMMARY

The Dryer Operator performs various duties, including, but not limited to, following written and verbal instructions and making decisions using good judgement based on prevailing conditions.  The job requires the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

The job requires periodic, non-repetitive, manual lifting of weights that may be in excess of 50 pounds.  The working position may be awkward or require turning, twisting and/or bending while lifting, requiring moderate physical agility.  This job also requires the ability to climb stairs and ladders.  The nature of the job requires moderate endurance, good manual dexterity and reflexes.  The job requires that the employee be responsive to periodic emergency situations that may demand speed and accuracy.

DUTIES

  • Follow Job Safety Analyses, use safe work practices and report hazardous conditions at all times.  Wear protective clothing and equipment as required.
  • Keep equipment and area clean and orderly at all times, per assigned housekeeping schedule.  Paint equipment as directed.
  • Visually check mat spacing on dryer rollers as received from forming machine.  Synchronize high speed wet table tipple and dryer high speed loading.
  • Increase or decrease dryer roller speed as required by rate of supply from forming machine within limits of drying capacity.
  • Check and adjust temperature controls for each zone of dryer.
  • Notify Fourdrinier Operator when production exceeds dryer capacity.
  • Check observation windows for movement of material every 30 minutes on 1" and 3/4" and every 15 minutes on 1/2".  Clean dryer windows as needed.  Use proper PPE.
  • Visually check drying quality and maintain board temperature at trim saw within prescribed limits.
  • Start up and shut down dryer burners and drives as required for normal and emergency shut downs.
  • Check adjustment of tension on dryer drive chains and control tension at starts and stops.
  • Disengage drive clutch and remove defective mats.
  • Extinguish minor scrap fires with hand extinguishers.
  • Notify Supervisor of major dryer fire and proceed to extinguish.
  • Change dryer control charts.
  • Check combustion air filters on #4 and #5 dryer zones on each shift and change as required.
  • Report dryer data daily as required.
  • Assist in clean out of jammed mats.
  • Adjust circulating air flow.
  • Occasionally train inexperienced employees on the job.
  • Perform other related duties as directed, including duties of other classification.
