Varian is now looking for a Proton Customer Support Specialist to monitor and support ProBeam clinical sites around the world. Using proprietary software, Specialists will remotely support the operation of the ProBeam proton therapy system during patient treatments, calibrations, and other QA activities. This individual's primary job duty is to take phone calls directly from radiation therapists and medical physicists at ProBeam clinical sites around the world and perform necessary corrective actions as required to ensure safe, efficient and continual operation of the proton therapy system.

Duties include:

  • Provide highly visible customer support through the performance of remote operation and monitoring of proton therapy equipment during customer use for patient treatment and QA activities.
  • Provide guidance to customers in the operation of the proton therapy system aligned with previously provided customer training and instructions.



  • Make operational changes and adjustments to the proton therapy system as required to ensure safe, efficient and continual operation.
  • Follow internal procedures for accurately documenting customer interactions within the CRM system.
  • Escalate complex issues to internal advanced support teams as required to assist in performing operational support.
  • Summarize daily clinical operations performance for local field service team to aid in scheduling of after-hours corrective maintenance activities.
  • Review and provide feedback on internal service documentation and processes.



  • Provide feedback to the Varian Global Service Operations team to improve the internal software tools and design future system improvements.
  • Document operating characteristics and technical performance of the system to improve operational efficiency.
  • Train and coach new and less experienced Customer Support Specialists in required job duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Job Requirements

Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working as a technical operator, technical help desk, or related



  • Customer focused attitude
  • Articulate and skilled in interpersonal communication
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
  • Full color vision required
  • Willingness to travel 50% in the first 6 months for on-the-job training at existing clinical sites



  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to work on a 12 hour shift, including nights and weekends



Other Desired Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with troubleshooting complex issues, including software, electrical, or mechanical systems
  • Experience working in the medical field
  • Additional language-skills (German, French, Mandarin, Italian and/or other) is a merit
  • Proficient in utilizing business tools such as: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience using SAP
