Responsibilities
The Aerospace Corporation’s Digital Communications Implementation Department (DCID) is searching for a technician that can support our IT infrastructure. Our group uses software-defined radios and FPGA technology to develop advanced communication and navigation system prototypes that solve problems related to digital communication systems. DCID’s system administrator will be responsible for maintaining smooth operations of multi-user computer systems across the department’s laboratories and servers. The Sys Admin will establish and monitor administrator and service accounts, maintain system documentation, tune system performance, install system software and hardware, monitor system availability, access and security, and allocate/maintain mass storage space. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources and develops, tests, and maintains business continuity procedures in conjunction with other support teams. Key Functions
- Maintain department IT systems across several labs at various levels of classification
- Monitor and manage the servers, background jobs, performance of the system
- Coordinates with other support teams including network, security, application, customer, and as applicable vendor teams
- Collaborates with other support teams and vendors to develop, deploy, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot IT services
- Monitor the status of work processes, system logs, etc.
- User, Role and Authorization management
- Automating system maintenance where possible
- Develops storage allocations, defines backup and archival procedures and maintains and modifies backup and recovery process.
- Monitors storage use and resources and troubleshoots storage related issues.
- Evaluates vendors and makes recommendations for hardware/software purchases.
This position can be filled as an Aerospace Systems Administrator III or IV
Qualifications
Required
- 5 or more years experience with an Associates Degree or equivalent vocational/military training or 7+ years of relevant experience with High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience working in a development environment, following safety procedures, taking care of equipment
- Familiarity with electronics or environmental test equipment
- Ability to support, configure, and maintain operating systems, hardware, applications, and system automation and configuration management technologies
- Experience maintaining Linux Servers and workstations
- Effective interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and work with other internal and external organizations
- Ability to adapt to changing organizational needs
- Experience in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
Required for consideration as an Aerospace Sys Admin IV
- 8 or more years experience with an Associates Degree or equivalent vocational/military training or 10+ years of relevant experience with High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, to self-initiate activities, and to work within timelines
- Proficiency in working in a development environment, following safety procedures, taking care of equipment
- Proficiency with electronics or environmental test equipment
- Demonstrated experience supporting, configuring, and maintaining operating systems, hardware, applications, and system automation and configuration management technologies
- Proficiency in maintaining Linux Servers and workstations
- Effective interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and work with other internal and external organizations
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational needs
- Experience in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
Preferred (both)
- Experience with radio systems and associated test equipment
- Experience maintaining classified information systems
- Experience managing equipment / inventory control / equipment tracking
- Significant experience with computers and networks to support managing a laboratory computer setup
- DevOps experience, specifically with Jenkins Servers
- Experience with GitHub and managing Git repositories
- Current Top Secret clearance
