I. Job Summary
The Sustainability Senior Manager supports WM's sustainability improvement efforts and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting efforts across the company.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned to support the ESG and Sustainability program.

  • Manages the development, implementation and execution of sustainability programs, and tools to support embedding sustainabilty throughout the organization.
  • Communicates and represents WM's mission, vision, and sustainability program details to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitors and facilitates the progress of sustainability programs ensuring consistency with WM's sustainability strategies, goals, and reporting standards.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with stakeholders across the company to explore opportunities to develop and execute plans for improving WM's ESG performance and imbedding them into business practices.
  • Supports the completion of WM's reporting efforts, including TCFD, CDP, S&P Global's CSA, EcoVadis and other reports as identied. Assess for areas of improvement, and work on continuous improvement in our reporting.
  • Prepares ongoing benchmarking research to ensure that WM maintains its leadership role in sustainability.
  • Prepares presentations and economic business justification studies related to the opportunities to improve WM's ESG performance.
  • Completes presentations, studies, reports and white papers on ESG for use by internal/external stakeholders to communicate specific topics, projects and programs.
  • Acts as the sustainaiblity subject matter expert in multiple technical areas, such as climate change, circularity, recycling, and social impact/community engagement, providing support and counsel to internal stakeholders.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of supervisory employees and individual contributors, including indirect supervision of staff supporting project development efforts.

IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Business (with focus on Corporate Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, or similar area of study, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant experience.

Masters Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.

Experience: Eight (8) years relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

Relevant Sustainability and Reporting training/certifications preferred.

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Project Management / Strategy / Professional Services
  • SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer software expertise.
  • Knowledge of how a greenhouse gas inventory is developed and verified, and understanding of scopes 1, 2, 3 and supply chain emissions.
  • Expertise in organizational change management related to Sustainability

  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc) most of the workday ;
  • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 10 pounds rarely ;
  • Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc) rarely ;
  • Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely ;
  • Normal setting for this job is: corporate or home office setting.
