Our Opportunity:

Chewy is looking for a Technical Operations Manager to work side-by-side with passionate pet lovers in our in-house Creative Services department located in Dallas, TX. You'll be responsible for administration and technical development for the Photo, Video, and Post-Production workflow automation and related systems. The work will range from being the primary systems administrator and specialized technical support for assigned Creative Services technologies, to researching, deploying, operationalizing, and integrating new Studio-related hardware, software, and workflow solutions for the department.


What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as a systems administrator within Creative Services, owning infrastructure and iterative development of designated on-premises and/or SAS technology platforms
  • Guide the development of system frameworks and architecture, as an advocate for successful adoption by studio production teams to support Creative Services priorities, KPIs, and production requirements
  • Manage technical vendor and consultant relationships for designated platforms leveraged by Creative Services
  • Serve as a Technical Operations liaison to stakeholders and shared services on behalf of the Creative Services teams
  • Audit and evaluate workflow system performance and usability to identify opportunities for automation efficiencies, training, and/or enhancements
  • Research and recommend innovative solutions to best fit the evolving needs of the department in context with existing roadmap priorities, constraints, and potential conflicts with other initiatives
  • Lead vendor research initiatives for new creative production technologies to support the growing departmental needs across multiple locations
  • Consult with user representatives and other relevant stakeholders to understand and anticipate their needs and translate them into product requirements for new and existing technology initiatives
  • Collaboratively engineer technical solutions through partnerships with peers and leaders from Creative Operations, Creative Services, Studio Operations, and IT
  • Maintain and document consistent workstation software and hardware for all roles within the Studio, Post-production, and Design department that may include Video Editors, Motion Graphics Designers, Audio Engineers, Colorists, Coordinators, Photo Retouchers, Digitechs, Photographers, and Producers
  • Partner with Tech Ops Project Manager to plan, schedule and oversee the necessary phases of new initiative deployments and ongoing support
  • Provide thought-leadership on the practical application of industry best practices related to unique Chewy Creative Services technology and related production workflow use cases
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting and technical support for users and specialized systems within the Creative Services department
  • Partner with IT teams to utilize standard technical support channels for all Creative Services technologies as appropriate
  • Develop, document, and administer Pilot and UAT testing related to designated technology initiatives
  • Create technical process and training materials for the user community including pre, and post-deployment support as well as iterative development planning
  • Consistently and openly communicate with Tech Ops Project Manager and leadership about contextual status updates, pivots, pending needs or progress blockers


What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Marketing, or related field
  • 5+ years of technical operations experience within a Creative Services or Studio Production environment, inclusive of post-production and digital asset management
  • Deep knowledge of end-to-end production workflows for video, photo, and design content creation for broadcast, web, social, and print. E-Commerce/Retail experience a plus!
  • A high level of understanding of Studio and Creative Services use cases for:
    • On-prem servers, cloud-based storage, and collaboration platforms (Dropbox, SharePoint, OneDrive Frame.io, Isilon server)
    • Media/Digital Asset Management systems (AEM DAM, MAM)
    • Creative software (Adobe Creative Cloud, Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, Media Encoder, Davinci Resolve, Capture One, Cinema 4D, Arnold, Avid Pro-Tools, Universal Type Server/Client)
    • Workflow management and reporting (Workfront, Inventory management systems, Jira, Confluence, Tableau)
  • Technical expertise and comprehensive understanding of how to support the post-production workflow including Video Editing, Motion Graphics, VFX Compositing, Color Correction, Audio Mixing, Rendering, Shared Network Storage, Remote Recording, Large File Transfers, Indexing Assets, and Archiving Assets
  • Highly competent in troubleshooting, managing, and administering Mac OS X and Apple desktop and laptop workstations
  • Experience with backup, restore and archiving procedures with different technologies
  • General networking knowledge - including Ethernet, Fibre Channel, switching and how it operates in Mac OS X and Network Attached Storage environments
  • Proven ability to self-manage multiple projects as part of a distributed team across several locations
  • Ability to thrive in an ever-developing, fast-paced environment and adapt to shifting priorities or pivots based on project requirements and changes in scope
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, time management, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to tactfully influence cross functional teams to drive tasks and projects to completion
  • The capacity to project a calm, confident, professional demeanor while working under pressure
  • An understanding of quality, as a creative thinker who sees value in high levels of production and execution of projects
  • Comfort working within both waterfall and an Agile framework for Scrum-style projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication with the ability to flex between creative and technical vernacular with ease
  • Active listening, problem-solving, and strong analytical skills with the ability to think critically
  • A positive, can-do attitude with teammates, internal clients, and corporate stakeholders
  • Position may require periodic travel to multiple studio sites
