A Typical Day
The Capital Markets VIRSI (Valuation and Interest Rate Sensitive Investments) Manager will be responsible for valuation, analytics, and reporting of Pennymac's mortgage-related assets, with a focus on the Mortgage Servicing Rights (MSR) portfolio encompassing approximately $560 billion of serviced loans. As the VIRSI Manager, you will also support Capital Markets' evaluation of potential MSR acquisitions in addition to MSR pricing to support the company's position as the nation's largest correspondent aggregator. This position requires a solid background in and understanding of the cash flow mechanics of mortgages and related derivatives in addition to the knowledge or financial modeling techniques that can be applied in the valuation of such assets.
The VIRSI Managerwill:

  • Project and model the value and performance of mortgage assets
  • Analyze drivers and trends in performance of such assets
  • Generate reporting regarding mortgage asset valuation, performance, and other key attributes
  • Assist with the development and testing of new models in addition to the performance benchmarking of new models
  • Contribute to the timely and accurate preparation of management and financial reporting
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned
  • Demonstrate behaviors which are aligned with the organization's desired culture and values


What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Familiarity and background in the valuation of mortgage related assets (whole loans, MBS and / or MSRs)
  • Strong understanding of Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) valuation techniques
  • Highly proficient in Excel (Lookups, PivotTables, Macros, What/If Analysis, etc.)
  • Proficiency in SQL and/or Python preferred

Compensation: Individual salary may vary based on multiple factors including specific role, geographic location / market data, and skills and experience as defined below:

  • Lower in range - Building skills and experience in the role
  • Mid-range - Experience and skills align with proficiency in the role
  • Higher in range - Experience and skills add value above typical requirements of the role


Some roles may be eligible for performance-based compensation and/or stock-based incentives awarded to employees based on company and individual performance.
