This Opportunity

WSP's Climate, Resilience & Sustainability (CRS) national business line is currently initiating a search for a Director, International CRS for our Charlotte, NC office. This position could also work out any other WSP USA office in the vicinity of Charlotte, NC.

Be involved in projects with our Climate, Resilience & Sustainability Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

This is a project management and client development position that requires technical expertise with international financial and development institutions and other CRS clients both domestically and abroad in Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) programs as well as definition and mitigation of climate-related risks and hazards such as global warming, sea level rise, storm surge, and riverine flooding, or assessing the impacts caused by those hazards to our clients' infrastructure assets, their services, and impacted communities and economies. This position will also coordinate with WSP USA's Federal Programs team on USAID, other governmental aid agencies outside the US (eg, FCDO), interntational financing institutions, and other multi-national clients and developing cuntries and economies in the Global South and elsewhere - with a significant but not sole emphasis on Latin America. Fluency in Spanish and expertise in sustainable infrastructure and equity is also desired. You will work with other experts from our CRS team, including climate finance specialists coming from WSP's recent acquisition of Climate Finance Advisors (CFA) and other scientists, engineers, planners, economists, policy specialists, and risk/energy modelers. You will help to expand our organization to meet our growing portfolio of clients, for whom we identify their risk to climate-related hazards, including socio-economic impacts, and develop climate resilient and sustainable strategies and plans .

Your Impact

  • Help to lead efforts broadly in ESG and to provide quantitative analysis of climate risk and resilience and other long-term climate-related considerations for a range of clients (e.g., due to sea level rise, increased precipitation, increased frequency and magnitude of hazard events.)
  • Expand municipal sustainablity services, providing management consulting, analysis and strategy frameworks to support effective action
  • Contribute to the continued expansion of the market, through the delivery of existing services and products for new clients and the design and delivery of new services and products aimed at supporting effective decisions and improve capital investments to reduce the effects of future climate-related hazards.
  • Manage multiple projects, delivering on commitments through effective coordination with external resources and consulting team partners.
  • Develop strategic business plans, working with sector leads from within the WSP USA business lines on collaborative engagements.
  • Represent WSP USA in the marketplace, contributing capabilities and experiences to other WSP offices
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures


Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced (MS and/or PhD) Degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Planning, policy or other technical discipline relevant to the assessment and management of infrastructure, climate/disaster risk and resilience and/or sustainability concerns.
  • 12 years of professional experience on domestic US as well as international projects, including project management, supervision and mentoring experience.
  • Experience working with diverse disciplines, sectors and stakeholders (e.g., transportation, water, energy, municipal) to address climate, resilience and sustainability concerns.
  • Technical capabilities and leadership in project design and delivery as well as international project finance.
  • Experience working with a spectrum of environmental, financial, socio-economic, and infrastructure data sets and large datasets.
  • Ability to be innovative on challenging topics to produce client-tailored products and positive outcomes.
  • Experience working independently, and on efforts requiring remote collaboration.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with foreign language proficiency a plus.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Experience developing tools and resources to inform long-term policy and decision making
