What you do:Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, this role is accountable for overall leadership of the Model Risk Management team. This role must collaborate effectively with highly technical leaders across multiple departments and operating entities on all matters related to model risk, model validation and risk management in general. Ensures model validation library and all validation models remain current, relevant and in compliance with all applicable changes in laws. Serves as a thought leader and incorporates updates and changes into models to maintain alignment with current best practice and methodology.

What you bring:

  • Stakeholder Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact for departments and contracted entities for all model risk validation activity. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and stakeholders. Establish, maintain and update service levels and agreements as needed. Ensure all committees / groups responsible for model governance are kept current on any changes to models and / or methodology
  • Model Governance: Accountable for reviewing and updating the model validation library as required. Review the model governance and ensure appropriateness to the organization considering Allianz Group and/or legal requirements. Propose changes as required, ensure model governance has appropriate scope and coverage for new and existing models.
  • Assess model governance adherence across the organization. Maintain the model inventory and track relevant status including validation status, materiality, criticality, and other items pertinent to the model, understand the modelling process including inputs and outputs, assumptions and update/review intervals. Assess the model life cycle and model change management process of the various models and provide best practices to the various teams, work with model owners to understand the model changes which are being considered and assess if model changes will impact the validation status of the models and require review/validation
  • Model Validation: With a high degree of independence, develop / review the model validation plan and prepare an annual model validation report for the Chief Risk Officer. Develop / update templates used by model validators. Develop / update the model validation program for each model validation, perform model validations as independent reviewer. Review findings from model validations and align with the Chief Risk Officer. Align on / negotiate findings, outcomes and actions with the various impacted models and teams to determine a remediation plan and timeline for implementation. Track remediation plan items and work with teams to ensure identified items are being addressed
  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of highly skilled model validation analysts. Coach, guide and develop team members. Maintain a cohesive, engaged team through creation and maintenance of a positive team culture and dynamic.



Experience:8-10 years-experience required: Experience developing and validating models required. Must possess deep knowledge of the insurance industry and insurance products. Demonstrated success leading a team and building effective relationships in a complex, matrixed environment

Education

  • 11+ years' experience preferred
  • Four-year degree required: Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or related technical or business field
  • Advanced degree preferred: Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics or related technical or business field
