Duties: Associate with Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC in Salt Lake City, UT. Associate in the Operations Divisions Tax Processing Business Unit which uses quantitative analysis and other processes to produce business intelligence assets and automate processes through low code automation. Use technical programming and quantitative education to automate tax withholding and business intelligence processes across multiple data platforms and tools to ensure compliance with new and existing U.S. Treasury regulations. Leverage technical skillset to design and enhance processes that are effective and scalable in addressing regulations and client requests. This includes designing and coding Excel macros (VBA) for tax withholding reconciliation processes and writing Structured Query Language (SQL) queries to analyze large data sets, draw appropriate conclusions, and make cogent, actionable recommendations. Perform a full range of daily processes including calculation and reporting of regulatory customer protection requirements, root cause analysis of issues and various completeness and accuracy controls of systemic calculations. Work closely with other Operations teams, as well as across the Firm's business units, including Regulatory Reporting, Global Securities Services, Prime Brokerage, Private Wealth Management Client Representatives, Compliance and Legal, to ensure compliance. Develop and build business intelligence dashboards to enable teams access to detailed and high-level information surrounding their process, enabling teams to better perform their functions while also decreasing risk. Understand the complexities and nuances of W-8 and W-9 series IRS tax forms and validate client tax forms determining applicable tax withholding and reporting implications to ensure firm compliance. Document business requirements by leveraging technical experience with Signavio (business process modeling & design software) and engineer solutions using advanced data blending and visualization software (Alteryx and Tableau). Play a critical risk management role by collaborating with stakeholders across banking, sales and trading, and asset management in order to reconcile and remit the correct tax withholding to the appropriate tax authority. Act as a point of contact for client facing groups and provide withholding subject matter expertise. Leverage understanding of complex and varied federal, state and local tax withholding rules to support ad-hoc client inquiries regarding taxability, reporting and withholding. Validate the taxability of corporate action events, support tax reporting, and conduct post data quality reviews following issuer driven Income Reclassification Process (IRP). Reconcile liability and assess withholding on IRS Section 1446 income (effectively connected income paid by partnership). Act as a risk manager for the firm through ongoing assessment and awareness of the tax regulatory environment and the firm's adherence to its tax reporting obligations. Ensure compliance and reduce risk to the bank by providing informational tax written guidelines and reviewing external departments' training materials and procedures.

Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, or any related quantitative degree such as Financial Engineering, or Computer and Electrical Engineering. Three (3) years of experience in the job offered or in a related role. Prior experience must include three (3) years in: utilizing strong and methodical analytical skills to perform in-depth reconciliation processes and balance multiple books and records to mitigate risks; proactively identifying and escalating regulatory exceptions to ensure accuracy, completeness and adherence to competing reporting deadlines; applying advanced Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access and Excel skills to create and produce regulatory reports and internal presentations, including by using VBA macros and complex formulas; participating in internal operations projects to drive strategic business initiatives and to evaluate processes to enhance and improve client reporting operational flow with particular focus on ensuring regulatory compliance; working closely with multiple stakeholders and using clear and concise verbal and written skills to communicate effectively within the team environment; demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail while performing reporting and reconciliation processes; and managing competing deadlines with minimal supervision and by utilizing analytical skills. Prior experience must include two (2) years in: utilizing business intelligence tools to process and analyze data sets across thousands of line items and dollars, write SQL queries to improve efficiencies, eliminate waste, and reduce operational risk for a large financial services or related organization; utilizing lean management principles to help create value to the customer and team by optimizing resources, creating stable workflows, and reducing risk; leveraging process modeling tools such as Signavio or Microsoft Visio to document complex workflows; and working with software development teams to implement and validate test scripts and communicating the requirements concisely and effectively across the software development team.
