Job Description
The Assistant Field Merchant - Consumable and General Merchandise will drive execution of market specific initiatives within an assigned geographic territory covering roughly 2,000 CVS locations. The position will work remotely from a Regional Business office and report to the Field Merchandising Manager. The Assistant Field Merchant will partner with the FMM to execute established plans within the Consumable and General Merchandise categories with an emphasis on fresh and refrigerated including Dairy, Frozen, Fresh Food, Beverage, Snack and Flowers. Additionally, will focus on Local needs including Urban, College, Tourist, beach and Multi-cultural. The position is also responsible for performing root cause analysis, problem resolution, category research and identifying potential business opportunities. The Assistant Field Merchant will collaborate and manage communication with local supplier partners and CVS field teams (DL, RD) to drive compliance to established merchandising standards and service
This position will be required to spend 40% of the time in the field - most likely NYC, NJ, Long Island and CT . Ideal candidate will be able to commute to NYC within a couple hours
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, Management, Economics, Marketing, or Finance
- Three to Five years' experience in Category Management/CPG Merchandising or Marketing with a multi-market retailer
- Demonstrated ability to manage a P&L.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple concurrent initiatives that have significant financial impact.
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to synthesize facts and insights into concrete, actionable strategies, and tactical plans.
- Excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
- Results driven, with a desire to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong cross-boundary abilities with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively across organizational boundaries.
- Ability to travel as necessary is required. Up to 40%.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience Partnering with Cross Functional Teams to deliver Results
- Partner with Category Managers to ensure that the strategic goals of the categories are supported by all marketing and merchandising programs.
- Negotiate and manage local vendor relationships with territory specific suppliers.
- Build and maintain consistency of our DSD supply channel partners through strong regional partnerships and distributor sourcing and supply chain.
Strong Communication
- Communicate and execute category merchant strategic plans in partnership with Field Operations (RD, DL and Store manager)
- Maintain positive trade relations with DSD distributor partners and while ensuring adherence to service standards for DSD businesses
- Conducts training of District Leaders and Store teams on DSD programs and priorities to drive sales. Attend Region Meetings to go over results, new programs, handle issues and build a bridge between merchandising and operations.
Category Management and Analysis
- Develop unique merchandising programs that support corporate strategies and goals while also serving the unique needs of their geographic territories.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement new businesses, categories, and items related to specific territories when strategically appropriate
Education
Bachelor's degree in business, Management, Economics, Marketing, or Finance
