Position Summary

The purpose of the Operations Specialist is to conduct inspections for various Waukegan Park District facilities, sites, equipment, and amenities to identify life-safety, maintenance, and operational concerns and ensure compliance with applicable safety and fire protection requirements. This position requires on-site presence and is not a remote role. This position is required to adhere to all Waukegan Park District (District) policies and procedures.

 

Essential Functions

  • Conducts scheduled inspections of facilities, sites, equipment, amenities, and other assigned areas including, but not limited to, accessing rooftops as required, in accordance with insurance requirements, fire codes, and industry standards.
  • Documents inspection findings of facilities, sites, equipment, amenities, and other assigned areas.
  • Identifies and reports potentially unsafe conditions, hazards, or violations encountered during inspections or other assigned duties.
  • Adheres to inspection schedules as established by the Risk Management Department.
  • Maintains inspection schedules in the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) management software.
  • Enters data of inspections providing specific information including, but not limited to, responsible party, location, and severity of hazards found in the EHS.
  • Reviews and submits inspection report summaries through the EHS.
  • Monitors the status of Microsoft Forms inspections and reports any discrepancies to the Human Resources and Risk Management Specialist such as, but not limited to, first aid kits and AEDs.
  • Performs minor repairs, replacement, and maintenance on such items as, but not limited to, hardware, batteries, and outlet covers.
  • Provides contractors with access to inspection sites and provides on-site assistance as needed.
  • Maintains security of all sites when opening and closing.
  • Travels to and from facilities and sites as required.
  • Drives District vehicles, and when a District vehicle is unavailable, uses a personal vehicle to travel between facilities and sites.
  • Assists staff in the performance of their duties.
  • Answers customer inquiries or directs to appropriate staff as necessary.
  • Responds to public and District staff inquiries and needs with promptness and professionalism.
  • Conducts duties adhering to all safety requirements.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor to support the department or the District.

 

Qualifications

Age

  • 18 years and older

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred

Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years work experience in a position that required self-direction and independent work preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years work experience in administrative or clerical work preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Microsoft Office experience in Excel/Word/Outlook preferred
  • Operate job related equipment
  • Communicate effectively through listening, speaking, writing, and non-verbal cues
  • Demonstrates initiative and responsibility
  • Manage workload and hours with minimal direction
  • Make timely and effective decisions
  • Prioritize work efficiently and effectively
  • Follow procedures to obtain appropriate results

  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred
  • Identify problems or challenges and develop and implement solutions
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations. Compute rate, ratio, and percentage

License/Certification

  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license, not including vision restrictions for corrective lenses
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification within one (1) year of hire date

  • Use good safety awareness and judgment
  • Recognize noncompliance with safety regulations and standards

Residency: Employees are encouraged, but not required, to become residents within the boundaries of the Waukegan Park District.

Skills Required
