The Role
Cypress Creek Renewables is seeking a highly motivated candidate with a track record of utility solar experience to oversee and manage the daily operation of a rapidly growing portfolio of utility-scale PV plants and mentor junior members of the engineering team.
The Operations Engineer acts as the main technical point of contact for an assigned portfolio of PV Facilities and will assist in troubleshooting, causal analysis, and performance improvement initiatives. The Operations Engineer will also contribute towards monthly, quarterly, or annual performance/production reports for internal and external use.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Closely monitor the day-to-day operation and long-term performance of numerous utility scale photovoltaic generation facilities.
- Data analysis of underperforming systems.
- Develop recommended schedules for routine maintenance, service, troubleshooting and repair of equipment at photovoltaic facilities.
- Manage complex tasks and projects as required for the Operations & Maintenance team.
- Aid field technicians and control room operators with complex system troubleshooting.
- Perform root cause analysis for major system faults.
- Predict future issues via daily monitoring and trending.
- Create performance reports for asset management and project finance teams.
- Serve as main point of interface for all technical questions regarding facility performance from external parties.
- Higher level engineers provide advanced support for the team requiring a more in-depth analysis of performance and/or electrical troubleshooting.
Desired Education and/or Work Experience
- S. and/or Masters in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license, or Engineer in Training (EIT), or desire to obtain one
- 4+ years of experience in the operation and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
- Experience or education in data analytics: using programming (Python, R, VBA, etc) to manipulate, analyze, and automate tasks with large data sets; preferably in the solar industry
- Established record of experience with photovoltaic maintenance and design.
- Established record of experience with operation of SCADA "Cimplicity" or "Ignition", DAS, and control systems.
- Established record of experience in all aspects of electrical maintenance, including DC systems, AC medium voltage systems, and network communications and monitoring.
- Established record of experience or knowledge of electrical power systems, protection coordination, and modifying relay settings.
- Established record in relay operation, settings, and event analysis.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, with a deeper focus on Excel.
- Ability to take direction and complete tasks with minimal oversight.
Requirements/Work Environment
- Work is to be performed primarily in an office environment with occasional field visits.
- Ability to obtain unescorted access for NERC/CIP facilities.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must have the ability to travel, work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends.
The Operations Engineer works primarily from our Durham office and is expected to visit sites on occasion. They must have the ability to obtain unescorted access to NERC/CIP facilities, must have a valid driver’s license and must have the ability and willingness to travel and work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends.
