Overview:
M&T Bank is seeking a detail‑oriented, entry‑level Operations Associate to join our back‑office Operations team. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to get their foot in the door at M&T Bank and build a foundation in financial services operations. As part of our non‑agency document custody group, you will play a critical role in the front end of the document custody process, ensuring that loan documents from institutional clients are accurately received, reviewed, and tracked prior to being stored in our vault. This team acts as the first line of review – verifying that documents meet contractual requirements before being archived in our secure vault systems. Simply put, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys accuracy, organization, and fact‑checking in a structured environment.
What You’ll Do:
Intake and process incoming physical and electronic loan documents from institutional clients, including non‑agency loans (i.e., not affiliated with government programs such as Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac).
Perform basic document review and data matching, ensuring key information aligns with agency guidelines or custodial agreements.
Verify document details such as completeness, signatures, and address matching based on established review criteria.
Determine whether documents are originals or copies and update internal tracking systems accordingly.
Accurately record document movement, review status, and exceptions within the Document Custody tracking system.
Identify and document any exceptions found during review, escalating issues as required.
Route reviewed documents to the appropriate internal teams, including the vault team for secure filing and long‑term storage.
Adhere to M&T Bank’s risk management, regulatory, and internal control standards.
Complete additional operational or administrative tasks as assigned.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Solid alphanumeric data entry and review skills
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift approximately 30-50 pounds
Work Model/Office Location:
This is a 100% onsite position requiring five days in office per week
Eligible candidates must live within commuting distance to 693 Seneca Street, Buffalo, NY 14210
Scheduled Shift/Required Availability:
Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm
