About the team

As a member of the London Market Operations team, this role will report into the Underwriting Support Team Manger. You will work alongside the underwriting and operations teams to drive and implement improvements to our processes and systems. These will in turn drive increased performance or realise improved efficiencies. You will also build an expert knowledge of all underwriting processes and in addition to the above, be able to provide underwriting administration support as and when required. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the overall success of the Operations Division in achieving its objectives in line with the London Market Strategy.

In order to deliver our strategy, the London Market Operations team need to be continually flexible and adaptable to change. Operational efficiency is key to reducing cost and improving service and quality, this team is critical to driving change and ensuring that underwriters move with the needs of the market. 

The Role

This is an exciting time to join a team that is critical in supporting the delivery of an ambitious 2025 business plan and beyond. You will be working towards our operations team vision statement of being ‘the heart of London Market’, being the driver in small change and improvements within your division and across London Market.

Key responsibilities

  • Build an expert knowledge of your class(es) of business and all systems and interfaces, keeping abreast of all developments and support your team/division by raising awareness of change.
  • Be a strong, confident communicator. The ability to clearly communicate change is key to ensuring that change is clear, well understood and effectively adopted. You will also meet resistance at times and so should be able to form and deliver a well-structured business case for change.
  • Be a subject matter expert on new technologies, processes and ways of working that drive efficiency and LEAN thinking, to challenge the current ‘norm’.
  • Support our change teams by being a source of information/expertise, gathering further information and drive adoption of new initiatives amongst the operations and underwriting teams.
  • Work closely with Central Operations, Operation Technicians and Underwriting assistants to establish their needs for improvements within the team and across London Market.
  • Know our numbers. Measure and monitor sustainable change, making sure all changes are adopted consistently throughout London Market and that we are investing in areas which will be utilised effectively.
  • Be the advocate for change in the Operations function by making sure deadlines are met, change is utilised and stakeholders are aware of what is expected of them.
  • Working with the MI, Data Ops and Central Operations teams to improve our use of and accuracy of data. Enabling the accessibility of data across London Market to help underwriting assistants support their underwriters. Support the overall Operations function in their goal to deliver high operational standards by developing a good understanding of the classes of business and the operational processes in place that support them and providing administration support to our teams as and when required

Must haves

  • A level or higher qualifications
  • Experience in operational improvements
  • Excellent communication skills with confidence to build relationships at all levels, and ask questions to ensure requirements and rationale are understood.
  • Enthusiastic, hardworking and driven individual with a focus on innovation and challenging the norm.
  • Able to demonstrate evidence of using analytical skills to support decision making.
  • Can demonstrate ability to prioritise and organise workload in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • Able to learn and take on new tasks quickly and use own initiative to explore possibilities before raising queries.
  • Can demonstrate experience of driving and/or contributing to increases in efficiency.
  • Proactive, showing initiative when completing tasks by pre-empting issues and proposing solutions for them.
  • Confidence in working independently, challenging individuals and presenting new ideas to large groups of stakeholders clearly and effectively.

 Nice to have 

  • Experience in the change process
  • Experience in a LEAN and agile culture
