Rijeka Gateway d.o.o. (RGW), a joint venture between APM Terminals and ENNA Logic, is undertaking a significant capital greenfield project, the development of the Rijeka Gateway Terminal, in Rijeka, Croatia. The goal of the project is to both construct and start-up the new container terminal for the shareholders, as well as expand the business value and proposition for entire region and hinterland for the main customer, Maersk.
The overall scope of this project entails the overall design, civil works (underground infrastructure, yard, new buildings & facilities, renovation of an existing, large warehouse), equipment deliveries (a/o STSs and RTGs), associated IT components, integration with the existing (port) infrastructure, operational start-up and integration of the whole into a working system ready for operational go-live.
The terminal is part of Maersk’s strategy to improve logistics in the East and Central European hinterland:
- Debottlenecking the region (Trieste, Koper, current small ICTSI terminal in Rijeka)
- Increasing ocean and inland capacity in Adriatic
- Create end-to-end solution in line with the integrator strategy
- Improved average transit time (Asia/CE) by up to 7 days
- Lower CO2 footprint
- Improving the inland corridor (of which the double rail track to Zagreb is a vital part – 60% of the volumes is planned to go via rail)
