Key Responsibilities:
  1. Compliance Monitoring:
    • Conduct regular internal audits and assessments to ensure compliance with labor laws, health and safety regulations, and international standards (e.g., SA8000, ISO 14001).
    • Monitor working conditions, employee well-being, and factory environmental impact to ensure adherence to corporate social responsibility (CSR) policies.
    • Ensure that the factory meets the requirements set by customers and international certifications for social compliance.
  2. Audit and Reporting:
    • Prepare reports and documentation for social compliance audits.
    • Follow up on non-compliance issues and ensure corrective actions are taken in a timely manner.
    • Coordinate and manage external audits by third-party organizations and customers' compliance teams.
  3. Training and Awareness:
    • Conduct training programs for factory management and workers on social compliance issues such as workers’ rights, health and safety, and environmental protection.
    • Educate workers about their rights and provide mechanisms for them to report grievances safely.
  4. Corrective Action Plans:
    • Work with management to develop and implement corrective action plans to address areas of non-compliance.
    • Ensure that improvements are implemented and followed up on regularly.
  5. Grievance Management:
    • Establish and manage systems for workers to report grievances, ensuring that they are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
    • Maintain open communication channels with workers and unions, if applicable.
  6. Supplier Management:
    • Work with suppliers to ensure they meet social compliance standards and that the factory’s supply chain remains ethical and responsible.
    • Perform supplier audits and follow up on corrective actions for any identified issues.
  7. Legal and Ethical Compliance:
    • Stay updated on local and international labor laws, regulations, and ethical practices.
    • Implement best practices for workplace ethics and ensure compliance with international labor standards such as the ILO (International Labor Organization) guidelines.
  8. Health and Safety:
    • Oversee workplace health and safety standards, ensuring compliance with local laws and international standards.
    • Conduct risk assessments, provide recommendations for improving workplace safety, and ensure workers are provided with the necessary protective equipment.
  9. Reporting to Management:
    • Provide regular reports to senior management regarding social compliance issues, audits, and progress on corrective actions.
    • Advise management on any changes in regulations or industry standards that may affect the factory’s operations.
Working Conditions:
  • The Social Compliance Officer typically works on-site at the garment factory and may need to travel to various supplier locations or attend external training sessions and audits.


Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Good knowledge about labor laws/codes, statutory and social compliance
  • Working experience in the Garment Manufacturing industry will be an added advantage.
