C.H. Robinson is looking for a Ocean Import Supervisor to join our team in Milan. In this role, you will lead a team of operations specialists and bring strong expertise in ocean import processes.
As Supervisor, you will manage daily workflows, guide and coach your team, and step in hands‑on when needed to ensure smooth and accurate execution of ocean import tasks. You will help solve operational issues, support your team with complex cases, and make sure our services are compliant, reliable, and delivered with high quality from start to finish.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, knows ocean import operations inside out, and is comfortable being both a leader and an active part of the daily work when needed. You will play a key role in keeping our operations efficient and supporting our partners with excellent service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of this position consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
Set clear expectations for the team, assign work, and monitor daily results.
Provide regular coaching to ensure quality, productivity, and strong service levels.
Participate in hiring, onboarding, and developing a diverse and skilled team.
Encourage employee feedback and create an open, inclusive, and supportive team culture.
Support the adoption of new tools, systems, and processes and help manage change.
Optimize daily workflow and identify opportunities to improve processes.
Act as the escalation point for operational issues and handle problem resolution.
Ensure the team follows all internal procedures, customer SOPs, and compliance requirements.
Build strong relationships with internal partners and keep them informed of performance and changes.
Step in to perform operational export tasks when needed and support peers if required.
Prepare performance reports and follow up on actions to improve service, cost, and quality
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field
At least 5 years of experience in ocean import operations within a freight forwarding environment
Minimum 3 years of experience leading and managing teams
Fluent in Italian and English, both written and spoken
Preferred:
Strong background in logistics operations
Demonstrated success collaborating on cross-functional projects and initiatives
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Skilled in building, managing, and nurturing team-oriented environments
Promotes a collaborative, adaptable communication and teamwork style
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both internal and external stakeholders
Strong understanding of performance and financial metrics
Effective decision-maker with proven problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities; adept at prioritizing daily responsibilities
Embraces change and consistently applies a continuous improvement mindset
