Main Purpose
Providing nursing care, treatment
and follow-up of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, protocols
applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, in order to
ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population
Accountabilities
• Knowing, promoting,
implementing and following up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions,
bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other
protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensuring high standards
of hygiene of his/her working environment. Respect médical records confidential at
all times.
• Organizing and
carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and
consultations through daily rounds and other medical procedures.
Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
• Identifying Sexually
Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical team so they
can receive the necessary treatment. Knowing and is aware of the importance
and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit
• Ensuring patients
are properly received and installed and that those with lack of autonomy are
assisted, especially regarding their feeding, personal hygiene, movements and
comfort. For ER and OPD nurse, ensuring triage of patients in waiting areas,
wards or during emergencies, detecting the priority acute/emergency cases,
carrying out first aid care and referring them to the doctor when necessary
• Sending material to
be sterilized and recuperates it from sterilization
• Carrying out
admission, surveillance and follow-up of patients (i.e. assessment of the
evolution of their state of health and the identification of any emergency or
deterioration
• Carrying and
supervising administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s files,
forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), ensuring an
appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any problematic situations
and cases that may arise. Participation in data collection and report sharing
to the doctors/supervisors.
• Participating in the
department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance
(quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs
inventories, stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover
ensuring no material is taken out of nursing area/wards without prior
authorisation, etc.)
• Perform cleaning and
minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and
protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
• Supervising and
training nurse-aids, nutritional assistants, cleaners and other related staff
under his/her supervision, ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate
protocols and procedures.

Accountabilities
1. Pharmacy Supplies
Management
- Ensure
consistent availability of essential medicines and medical supplies in the
clinic.
- Conduct
regular stock inventories to minimize wastage and prevent shortages.
- Oversee
proper storage, handling, and dispensing of medication in adherence to MSF
health regulations.
2. Family Planning
Services
- Provide
counseling and education on various contraceptive options.
- Facilitate
access to family planning services, including distribution of
contraceptives.
3. Hepatitis, HPV and
STI Awareness & Prevention and treatment.
- Lead
hepatitis awareness. Organize and implement hepatitis screening programs for
at-risk individuals.
- Promote
vaccination initiatives and ensure accessibility to hepatitis vaccines.
- Educate
clients on prevention methods, including harm reduction strategies.
- Provide
clinical management of STI and hepatitis.
- Performs
cervical cancer screening
4. HIV Prevention &
Education
- Promote
and distribute preventive commodities.
- Promote
the use of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (Prep) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis
(PEP).
- Facilitate
team coordination to enhance service delivery efficiency.
- Act
as a bridge between management and field teams, ensuring smooth
communication.
6. Quality Assurance & Timely Reporting
- Maintain high standards of
patient care.
- Ensure accurate documentation of
cases, interventions, and reports.
- Recommend operational
improvements based on data driven
- Maintenance of IPC and universal
standard precautions in the clinic.
- Identification of GBV survivors
and direct provision of medical treatments.
- promptly reporting suspected
cases for surveillance for further investigation and response.
7. Data documentation,
reporting and referral.
- Gather
comprehensive patient data for clinical intervention.
- Maintain
confidentiality of the patients’ records and registers.
- Effective
and timely referral of patients requiring higher care.
- Data
collection and summary of the departmental activities on monthly basis and
share data per the required indicators.
8. Support the Mental health team on mhGAP activities
Requirements
Education
• Essential recognized
nurse degree/diploma
• Desirable bachelor’s
in science of nursing
• DoH training on HTS
is an asset.
Experience
• Experience in
working with key and vulnerable population is essential
• Experience in HIV /
TB / STI programs is essential.
• Experience in
supervising and training others in a team setting is essential
• Experience and
trained on mhGAP desirable
• 2 years of previous
experience in other NGO’s desirable
• Provided candidates
meet the essential qualifications for the position, lived experience as key
population will be considered as an asset.

Skills Required
- Recognized nurse degree or diploma
- Bachelor's in Science of Nursing
- Demonstrable experience supervising and training others in a team setting
- Previous experience working with NGOs (approximately 2 years preferred)
- Experience in HIV/TB/STI programs
- Trained on mhGAP
- Experience working with key and vulnerable populations
- Fluency in English and Swahili
- Knowledge and practice of infection prevention and control (IPC) and universal hygiene standards
