Summary: The mechanical engineer is a fundamental element of all our products. This position will be a core member of the Electro-/Mechanical Engineering Staff reporting directly to the NPD Manager. The successful candidate will perform mechanical engineering design in a professional manner and typically include: Duties and responsibilities Perform mechanical design and development using 3D CAD software (Creo as preferred but not mandatory). Adhere to standards for mechanical engineering best practice. Deliver innovative, optimized engineering solutions. Deliver design solutions against requirements, within budget and timescales. Respectful of others with a high degree of personal integrity. Challenge ideas, proposed solutions and people in a constructive, positive manner. Carry out 'first-pass' structural analysis to determine if a design is fit for purpose Conceive, design, analyze, optimize, detail, and validate new mechanical and electromechanical systems. Satisfy all appropriate product requirements (functionality, performance, cost, quality, etc.) and project requirements (timing, budget, etc.) and achieve agreed commitments. Ensure design robustness and consistent product quality through engineering diligence and comprehensive validation testing. Visit customer locations w/Sales and Product Management to understand customer needs and product concerns firsthand. Work cooperatively within a cross-functional team and with other cross-functional stakeholders; communicate regularly up, down, and across the organization. Learn and constantly demonstrate each of the Allegion Values. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar discipline 5 years or more of relevant technical experience English language fluency (mandatory) Travel Time: 20% Key competencies Seek and share good practice and knowledge locally to continuously improve own practices. Working to timescales. Contribute towards continual improvement in product manufacturability through effective relationship building and design guidance / liaison with other engineering functions (systems, electrical, quality) and production to ensure product & customer requirements are fully satisfied Mechanical design and development using 3D CAD tools. Continue professional development throughout your career by formal training, learning "on the job" and keeping up to date with the latest developments which may aid performance. Creative thinking and ingenuity Product design and optimization Communication and global cross-cultural collaboration Technical analysis, problem-solving Proficiency with CAD/PDM systems and other engineering tools Knowledge of various manufacturing processes and a mass production environment Engineering design and development – process of delivering products and associated key milestones. Problem solving and simultaneous engineering – structured, logical approach to investigate issues and problems in an effective cross-functional manner. Mechanical engineering detailed design - first-hand experience of engineering design, numerical calculations, tolerance studies, etc. Self -motivated and willing to take on new challenges. Good communications skills (written & oral) are essential. The ability to develop good working relationships with stakeholders. Organized. Multi-tasker. Flexible.
