Job Summary
The neurointensivist assumes the primary role in the care of critically ill patients, based on their unique knowledge of the interface of the brain with other organ systems. The neurointensivist coordinates neurological and medical management, providing effective collaboration and communication among the specialists who make up the medical team.
Essential Functions:
  • Assumes a primary care role for patients in the ICU, coordinating both neurological & medical management. (55%)
  • Takes on responsibility for various elements of ICU care that might otherwise be provided by multiple subspecialists (i. e. cardiology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, pulmonary medicine, and neurology). (25%)
  • Proficiency with standard ICU monitoring, as well as specialized neuro-monitoring and interventions. (20%)

Education:
  • Doctorate Degree Graduation from an Accredited Medical School and completed Accredited Residency Programs and fellowships for specialist, or equivalent and Board Certified. Required

Work Experience:

    Licenses:
    • MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
    • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
    • Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
    • Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
    • Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
    • Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
    • Performs in a tactful and professional manner.
    • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
    • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
    • Computer skills required.
    • Computer skills preferred.

    Skills Required
