Network Systems Engineer

SUMMARY
Responsible for the design, development, implementation, and ongoing management of server hardware and software. Provide leadership on critical projects and tasks necessary for optimal system uptime and performance. Work with other groups within the Enterprise to develop and set strategies and procedures for optimal system uptime and performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and lead maintenance of software and hardware systems, including infrastructure maintenance, system updates and patching. 

• Design, install, develop and support server systems for various internal/customer facing applications. This includes identifying problems, suggesting changes & determining requirements for needed infrastructure systems. Assess the impact of any changes to server systems.

• Work with various groups within the Enterprise to manage large system projects. This includes identifying problems, suggesting changes & determining requirements for needed infrastructure systems. Assess the impact of any changes to server systems.

• Work with various groups within the Enterprise to develop, implement and support common security practices to ensure the protection of data and business continuity of all server systems.

• Develop and maintain detailed documentation on practices, procedures and other system information as required to ensure high availability and business continuity of all server systems. 

• Solve the most complex operations & business system issues through knowledge gained in research and development and collaboration with peers and business units.

• Provide advanced on-call technical support for all server systems and other NIS technologies. Train, develop and support junior engineers as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree preferred or 7 years of related college and/or work experience.

• 7 years of experience supporting multiple hardware & operating system platforms, specifically Linux/Unix systems. Working knowledge of database administration, including development, management and optimization. Strong knowledge of scripting languages. Expert level experience in common DevOps/Security practices. Excellent problem-solving skills & technical aptitude. Strong knowledge of all multiple programming software technologies & languages.

• Scripting & programming skills are required. 

• Must have excellent competencies in planning, organization, time management, written & oral communication.

• Relevant operating system, hardware and security certifications are required.

• Knowledge in many different areas of the communication industry including server administration, networking, electronics and general computing. Electrical aptitude is also important.

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined spaces,
