We are looking for a Service Architect who will operate within the Plan/Build/Run framework with a strong focus on the Run function. The ideal candidate will support operational excellence by implementing monitoring, executing documented procedures, contributing to automation, and maintaining accurate operational documentation. This role partners closely with SLOs, SMEs, and Operations teams to ensure service stability, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Operational Execution
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and dashboards in line with established standards, while identifying and recommending improvements
- Maintain and execute DR playbooks and Methods of Procedure (MoPs); proactively identify gaps and enhancement opportunities
- Perform scheduled configuration drift checks and carry out remediation activities under guidance
- Support incidents, FDOB readiness, and war-room activities as part of the escalation chain; execute recovery steps safely
- Automation & Efficiency
- Identify manual operational toil and contribute scripts or automation requests for review and implementation
- Operational Excellence
- Build and maintain alerts and dashboards; ensure runbooks remain current, accurate, and testable
- Execute MoPs with discipline, ensuring validations and outcome documentation are completed
- Knowledge & Expertise
- Maintain an up to date understanding of Optum's network environments and associated technology dependencies
- Produce and maintain accurate network flow diagrams and service dependencies for changes and incidents
- Collaboration & Support
- Partner with SMEs for training, escalations, and solution development; share knowledge with peers through documentation and knowledge transfers
- Support SLOs with change planning, test execution, and post implementation validation
- Service Stability & Improvement
- Participate in Day 2 validations, continuous improvement initiatives, and on call rotations as scheduled
- Cross Service Coverage Requirement
- Be responsible for at least one of the following services (progressing to two over time):
- SDWAN, Wireless, Employee VPN, EAC/ISE, Remote Site Switching
- Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). - 3+ years of experience in network engineering, network operations, or service delivery roles
- Experience with automation/scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) and observability platforms
- Solid foundational knowledge across network platform
- Proven excellent documentation skills and effective written/verbal communication
