Are you seeking a hands-on engineering role in a dynamic global business? We’re looking for a Network Engineer to join our team in a vital technical position within EROAD’s New Zealand operation. This role suits a resourceful technical professional with an electrical engineering, computer engineering, or embedded systems background, who enjoys problem-solving and working with real-world connected devices, servers, and IoT infrastructure that support thousands of vehicles worldwide.
About the Role:
As EROAD expands globally, we require a Network Engineer to help maintain, troubleshoot, and support our legacy vehicle telematics systems and their backend server infrastructure. You will play a critical part in ensuring reliable operation for over 27,000 field-deployed devices, along with assisting in the transition to next-generation solutions. Responsibilities include daily maintenance of Linux-based backend systems, hands-on troubleshooting in both hardware and firmware, fieldwork with installers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize system reliability and performance. As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Maintaining, diagnosing, and restoring backend systems supporting our legacy vehicle telematics units
- Providing hands-on troubleshooting for hardware, firmware, and server-side issues
- Participating in field installations and upgrades, including unit replacements for customers world-wide
- Modifying and supporting embedded code (C/C++) and server software to resolve operational issues and ensure system continuity
- Documenting procedures and sharing knowledge across teams
- Collaborating with engineering and support teams to ensure effective fleet management and reliable data delivery
- Supporting transition efforts from legacy systems to newer-generation solutions
Skills and Experience:
- Experience with embedded systems, Linux servers, or vehicle telematics devices highly desirable
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with hardware, firmware, and networking
- Proficient in C/C++ for embedded and server-side programming
- Hands-on experience with field hardware installation, support, or integration
- Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Practical understanding of vehicle electrical systems and IoT connectivity
