About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Network Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager – Core Networks, you will play an important role in supporting, monitoring and maintaining our data centre network environment, helping to ensure performance, reliability and continuous improvement across the network.

What you’ll be doing

  • Operate, monitor and maintain the company’s MPLS core, data centre networks and global WAN environment to ensure high availability and strong network performance.
  • Configure, integrate and manage network infrastructure, including forecasting, planning, ordering, installing and deploying equipment to meet current and future traffic demands.
  • Support automation initiatives by developing and using tools, scripts and CI/CD pipelines to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort across network operations.
  • Respond to and resolve escalated technical issues, outages, alarms and after-hours incidents, ensuring all activities are recorded accurately and promptly while participating in the on-call roster.
  • Work closely with internal teams and stakeholders to gather requirements, provide technical input, manage risks, and support successful project delivery and handover.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of network policies, procedures and documentation, including low-level designs, peer reviews and engineering records.
  • Act in accordance with health and safety standards, comply with safe working procedures and report any incident, accident or hazard.

What you’ll bring
  • A degree in computer science, engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in large enterprise or ISP/telco network environments, including MPLS (L3VPN, L2VPN/VPWS, LDP/SR) and core routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF and IS-IS on carrier-grade platforms including Cisco IOS-XR.
  • Strong troubleshooting capability across complex distributed environments, with the ability to diagnose issues across underlay and overlay networks and identify root causes effectively.
  • Solid Linux administration experience, ideally in a network operations environment, with exposure to platforms such as RHEL and Ubuntu.
  • A collaborative and adaptable approach, supported by strong communication skills, a practical problem-solving mindset and willingness to participate in an after-hours on-call roster.
  • Experience with modern data centre network fabrics, including Cisco Nexus or Arista environments using VXLAN/EVPN overlays and BGP underlay architectures, will be highly regarded.
  • Experience with Python-based network automation tools such as Netmiko, Nornir or NAPALM, along with NetBox or similar IPAM/DCIM platforms used as a source of truth, will also be highly regarded.

What We Do

Aussie Broadband is in business to change the telco game. We're a rapidly growing internet service provider with a reputation for providing high-quality internet, transparent customer service and a great place to work. We are proud to have an all-Australian based support team, and don't need to go offshore. We believe it is possible to work smarter, not harder, and keep jobs locally. We've evolved from a start-up in a lounge room in Morwell, later merging with Westvic Broadband, and now listed on the ASX. We are the fifth largest provider of NBN services across Australia. We offer a range of services across the residential, small business and enterprise segments, wholesale and white label segments. Aussie Broadband is also well-known for operating a quality network, with the rollout of our own fibre network across Australia underway. We not only challenge the game in telco, but also other games worth playing - like a focus on inclusion, values that live within the business rather than on the walls, how a rapidly growing company can still feel like a family, how we can make our communities better, and how a regional business can make a national impact.
