As a Data Center Network Engineer, you will contribute to the success of Caterpillar's state-of-the-art data center network architecture and network solutions. In this role, you will be part of a team responsible for the complete lifecycle of the Data Center Network. This includes planning, creating design solutions, deploying, and monitoring to ensure the Data Center Network operates at maximum reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
What You Will Do:
  • Design, document, deploy, and manage Data Center Network solutions through all phases of lifecycle management for Cisco ACI & Nexus equipment and Radware Load Balancers deployed at enterprise hosting locations and local facilities.
  • Support infrastructure and deployment projects across multiple regions and locations.
  • Partner with hardware, software, and vendor teams on the development of data center solutions.
  • Provide project participation, advice, and counsel to IT personnel, management, and project teams on various aspects of enterprise Data Center Network hardware and software.
  • Establish and implement global security and operational best practices and adhere to IT Controls.
  • Adhere to IT Service Management processes, instruction, and procedural documentation.
  • Work with application support teams/customer/operations management to develop plans to minimize the technical and/or business impact of network environment changes.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support the global datacenter network infrastructure 24x7.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve complex problems within the enterprise Data Center networks.

What You Have:
  • Problem Solving: Extensive knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Extensive knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on Data Center and Networking Hardware
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of data center and networking projects.
  • System Testing: Knowledge of network, system and software testing; ability to design, plan and execute system testing strategies and tactics to ensure the quality of software at all stages of the system life cycle.
  • Technical Writing/Documentation: Knowledge of technical writing; ability to write technical documents such as manuals, reports, guidelines or documents on standards, processes and applications.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Three to six years of experience designing, deploying, and operating large-scale networks.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, analytical, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate service interruptions is critical; management and impacted customer base must be aware of the situation and anticipated recovery time.
  • Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously and delivering against deadlines in a complex global environment.
  • Hands-on experience with the following:
    • Cisco Nexus Network Switches and NX-OS
    • Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)
    • Application Delivery Controller (Network Load Balancer)
    • Radware Alteon

  • The ideal location for this role is East Peoria-IL, Nashville-TN, Irving-TX
  • This position may require 10% travel.

Summary Pay Range:
$95,640.00 - $155,400.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
