Network Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This role provides network planning, configuration, and engineering services for a multi-year network refresh project. The Network Engineer will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), ensuring security compliance and adherence to design principles and best practices. A key focus of the role is strong change management, including creating detailed change requests (CRQs) and presenting them in CAB (Change Advisory Board) calls.

The successful candidate must have demonstrable experience with ITIL processes, particularly in managing large-scale migrations, such as from Checkpoint to Fortinet firewalls. They will collaborate with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and business management, ensuring seamless transitions and minimizing risk. ITIL certification and expertise in change management practices are essential for success in this role.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• The primary responsibility is to provide network planning and configuration services as part of a significant, multi-year network refresh.
• The engineer will ensure compliance with security standards, design principles, and best practices.
• The ideal candidate should possess a strong engineering mindset, complemented by exceptional collaboration and written and verbal communication skills.
• They should be proven to engage effectively with clients at all levels and demonstrate adaptability in diverse environments.
• This position will interface directly with internal stakeholders, external suppliers/providers, and business management.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

• Create CRQ (Change requests) with complete documentation, including change impact, configurations, and rollback plans, and present the change on CAB calls.
• Strong experience with the following vendors: Cisco Catalyst 9K switches, Catalyst Centre, Arista Data Centre switches, Arista Cloud Vision, Aruba Wifi, Netscout, Gigamon, Lantronics, HP Network Authority (HP NA)
• Knowledge of Cisco SD-Access deployments and configurations
• Routing protocols OSPF, BGP, ISIS, EIGRP, Multicast, VX Lan
• Experience with Hardware refresh, OS upgrades, patch mgmt, and robust routing and switching skills.
• Python scripting
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Analytical skills with the ability to address issues proactively and find practical solutions.
• Experience working in collaborative environments and supporting cross-functional team
• This role will require weekend work during maintenance or cutover periods
• Technical certifications such as Cisco CCNP or equivalent experience.
