Job Description:
IPv4.Global is building on its success and great reputation to provide additional services to its customers. This is a chance to see a lot of different networks and feel great about leaving the network and the team better off than when they started. We’ll do this by deploying IPv6, improving security, training them on technologies and best practices, and leaving the organization richer!
The network architect has three areas of responsibility:
-
Audit a variety of networks and plan IPv4 renumbering, IPv6 deployment, and recommend security and other best practices.
-
Train and explain technical topics to non-technical people, including staff and potential clients.
-
Provide architectural guidance on potential products and services.
What you’ll be doing:
-
Auditing customer networks to help them identify IPv4 addresses they could sell, and other potential needs.
-
Developing (and executing) renumbering plans.
-
Training people on IPv4, IPv6, DNS, BGP, RPKI, RBLs, geolocation, and other technical topics that come up from time to time.
-
Helping buyers complete paperwork justifying IP addresses.
-
Reviewing blog posts and marketing materials to make sure they’re technically correct.
-
Providing technical guidance for clients, typically around BGP and RPKI (Krill), or RBLs, or other technical concerns in buying or selling IPv4 addresses.
-
Demonstrating ReView, the IP address audit tool, to potential sellers and channel partners.
You’ll know you can do this job if you have:
-
A profound curiosity and a passion for the technology of pushing packets around. Do you read device configurations just to figure out what they do?
-
A deep understanding of IPv4 addressing. What’s the network number for 192.168.14.131/27?
-
Experience with IPv6. How do you protect against neighbor table attacks?
-
Experience in different kinds of networks: ISP, enterprise IT, data center, cloud. What stresses a CIO compared to an ISP VP of Network Engineering?
-
A background in routing (BGP, OSPF), routing policy (IRRs) and routing security (RPKI). What risks do IRRs and RPKI each mitigate?
-
Knowledge of security best practices (ACLs, firewalls, IPS, 802.1x, AAA, defense in depth). What are the pros and cons of different 802.1x authentications?
-
Excellent English language writing and speaking skills; you will need to be able to write a proposal, present it, and document the network. Where does the paragraph break go?
-
Working from our office in Times Square, New York City, Monday through Thursday
-
Some ability in network automation in Python or Go or similar would help. How do you update a dozen configurations with ansible or cacti?
-
Experience in consulting would also help. How do you manage customer expectations?
You’ll know you can succeed because we will:
-
Have a detailed onboarding plan for your first days, weeks, and months.
-
Let you know you’re included in and a cherished part of a great team.
-
Provide expert guidance.
-
Give you templates from previous engagements.
-
Provide custom tools and support additional development to streamline and scale.
-
Encourage you to grow.
-
Always look out for our customers.
-
Share our mutual success.
The role will include occasional travel to conferences and to meet with customers and uncover needs.
Compensation is $120,000 - $150,000 plus bonus based on success.
