Position Summary:


The National Account Manager (NAM) is responsible for developing and executing strategic sales plans to drive revenue, market share, and profitability within Walmart. This role serves as the primary liaison between the company and Walmart, managing all aspects of the customer relationship including business planning, assortment strategy, promotional execution, forecasting, negotiations, and cross-functional collaboration.

The ideal candidate is a highly analytical, results-driven sales professional with deep knowledge of Walmart's merchandising processes, retail strategy, and supply chain requirements. The NAM will partner closely with internal teams including Category Management, Supply Chain, Finance, Marketing, and Customer Service to ensure the successful execution of customer and company objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Walmart merchants, replenishment managers, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships to drive business growth and strategic alignment
  • Establish credibility as a trusted business advisor through insights-driven recommendations

Strategic Business Planning

  • Create and execute annual plans that align company objectives with Walmart's strategic priorities
  • Develop long-term growth strategies focused on revenue, profitability, market share, and distribution expansion
  • Identify opportunities for assortment optimization, new item introductions, and category growth

Sales & Revenue Growth

  • Deliver annual sales, profit, and market share targets
  • Lead negotiations related to pricing, promotions, contracts, and annual agreements
  • Drive incremental growth through promotional planning, omni-channel initiatives, and strategic investments

Forecasting & Financial Management

  • Manage customer P&L and trade investment budgets
  • Develop accurate sales forecasts and demand plans
  • Monitor financial performance and recommend actions to improve profitability and return on investment

Category & Market Analysis

  • Analyze retail trends, competitive activity, shopper insights, and category performance
  • Utilize data sources including Walmart Scintilla, Retail Link, Circana, and internal reporting tools
  • Present actionable recommendations to Walmart and internal leadership teams

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Supply Chain, Demand Planning, Marketing, Finance, and Category Management teams to ensure flawless execution
  • Support inventory management and in-stock performance initiatives
  • Coordinate successful launch of new products, packaging updates, and promotional events

Performance Reporting

  • Track KPIs including:
    • Sales Revenue
    • Market Share
    • Distribution
    • In-Stock Levels
    • Forecast Accuracy
    • Gross Margin
    • Promotional ROI
  • Prepare and present business reviews, scorecards, and executive summaries

 

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of sales or account management experience
  • 3+ years of experience managing Walmart or a major retail customer
  • Strong understanding of Walmart systems and processes
  • Experience with:
    • Scintilla
    • Retail Link
    • Nielsen / Circana
    • Microsoft Excel and Power BI
  • Proven success achieving sales and profitability targets
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and analytical skills

Preferred

  • Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) experience
  • Experience managing multimillion-dollar retail accounts
  • Knowledge of Walmart omnichannel and eCommerce strategies.

 

Environmental Factors:  

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to use a computer keyboard and view a monitor for extended periods of time
  • This position follows a flexible work arrangement that includes three days per week on-site in our Bentonville, AR office and two days per week working remotely.
