About this role
Purpose of the role is to lead the tax compliance and reporting processes within NAM.
Driving the standardization and automation agenda of the compliance process these processes to be able to manage the increasing workload on the compliance team as expectations towards the compliance team, both internally and externally, are gradually increasing.
About you
The role will include responsibility for the preparation and review of all direct and indirect tax returns with the related GL reconciliations, and review and approve transfer pricing adjustments for the scope assigned. The role will also assume responsibility for P10/P12 group reporting within scope, as well as PYA and cash tax reporting and forecasting. The role will report to the Global Tax Process and Governance Director to ensure the accuracy of tax reporting and tax returns.
The role’s primary geographical scope will be NAM; however, it might be instructed to support other regions and territories as well according to business needs. All of its territorial scope is strategically important to Diageo Global Tax and supply material figures to the Diageo Group both from finance and tax perspective.
The areas of the business you will support and who you will work with are:
- Finance Business partners and operational teams - Develop and maintain a strong working relationship and keeping up to date with business priorities and developments, act as a trusted business advisor in order to challenge and support the markets in improving overall tax management
- Specialist finance functions - Collaborate with finance functions as required to deliver end to end finance services to markets
- Global Tax SMEs, compliance SMEs, other tax business partners on tax related projects, audits and risk management in order to support the business, ensure audits are taken care of effectively and process improvements are implemented
- Market FCs and FDs to understand key items on Tax B/S and P/L, and to ensure appropriate knowledge sharing between tax and the business
- Global Tax Outsource Provider and other External Advisors - support the relationship with external tax advisors and hold them to account for the delivery of timely, efficient and value add tax advice
- CARM, GAR and External auditors to ensure tax controls and processes are understood and delivered to meet CARM satisfactory standard and SOX controls under the broader Tax Control Framework
- STP, ICO team – collaborating to drive efficiencies to the direct and indirect tax compliance processes
- Tax Technology – to partner and drive the automation agenda of NAM compliance processes and to standardize and automate the withholding tax processes globally
The role will have direct reports and will be responsible for managing the team in an appropriate manner, according to Diageo Leadership Standards. The role will also be responsible for robust development plan of its direct reports as well as supporting the succession planning of Global Tax Function.
What you'll bring
Accounting qualification and minimum 8-10 years of experience on reporting or tax compliance
- IFRS reporting (e.g. ACCA or dipIFR) and SAP experience is preferred
- Business acumen
- Broad understanding of key international tax issues
- At least 1-3 years of experience in managing teams; experience in managing managers
- Experience in IS project management and in process standardization is helpful
- Proven ability to support others through changes
