The U.S. government’s (USG) Global Health Security (GHS) program provides life-saving assistance to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease threats which pose risks for public health outbreaks that could cost lives. As part of the USG’s GHS program, the Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) Activity advances cross-sectoral efforts to successfully identify, manage, and respond to infectious disease threats; detect and prevent further outbreaks; and instill confidence in the operability of  a country’s disease detection and surveillance structures and services.

Position Summary:

The Multisectoral Support Specialist will  support STRIDES Bangladesh’s One Health and multisectoral coordination agenda across laboratory systems, surveillance, data integration, and outbreak preparedness activities. Working closely with the Technical Director and relevant technical leads, the Specialist will help coordinate engagement among human health, animal health, environmental health, emergency response, and data system stakeholders, including government counterparts, the One Health Secretariat, technical working groups, implementing partners, and subcontractors.

 The role will support joint planning, documentation of coordination mechanisms, follow-up on agreed actions, and development or updating of technical notes, SOPs, briefs, meeting outputs, and partner engagement materials. The Specialist will help ensure that STRIDES activities are aligned with government priorities, priority zoonotic disease needs, 7-1-7 objectives, and non-duplicative partner coordination across national and subnational levels.

Overall, the Multisectoral Support Specialist will play a vital role in advancing the project’s objectives by promoting collaboration, accountability, and integrated action across sectors, ultimately contributing to stronger systems and sustainable One Health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support coordination and communication among human health, animal health, emergency response and environmental health institutions to strengthen multisectoral collaboration under the One Health framework.
  • Support coordination with the One Health Secretariat, relevant technical working groups, MOHFW, MOFL, DGHS, DLS/CDIL, IEDCR, and other partners to advance multisectoral planning and implementation.
  • Facilitate and document multisectoral engagements related to priority zoonotic diseases, including partner mapping, validation of priority pathogens, coordination of human-animal health diagnostic protocols, and cross-sector referral criteria.
  • Facilitate joint planning sessions, technical meetings, and coordination forums related to One Health activities.
  • Support coordination of activities that link laboratory systems, surveillance systems, data sharing, and outbreak preparedness, including activities related to event-based surveillance, indicator-based surveillance, community-based surveillance, PHEOC/EOC coordination, and 7-1-7-aligned workflows.
  • Support documentation of workflows, coordination mechanisms, meeting outcomes, agreed actions, and follow-up commitments across sectors.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and updating of technical notes, SOPs, policy briefs, reports, and other knowledge products related to One Health initiatives.
  • Track follow-up actions, commitments, and progress across One Health activities, ensuring timely updates and accountability among partners.
  • Coordinate with laboratory, surveillance, data, MEL, and outbreak response teams to ensure One Health considerations are integrated into relevant technical activities without creating parallel systems.Support planning and documentation of trainings, workshops, stakeholder consultations, and multisectoral engagement events, including consolidation of inputs from multiple sectors and partners.Support monitoring and reporting processes by consolidating information and contributing to progress updates for project leadership and donors.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in public health, veterinary science, environmental science, social science, development studies, or a related field. 
  • At least 6-7 years of relevant professional experience in project coordination, multisectoral collaboration, public health, development programs, or related areas.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the One Health approach and experience working with government institutions, NGOs, or development partners.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience in preparing technical documents, reports, and knowledge products.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital collaboration tools.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, cross-sectoral environment with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Bangladesh’s health, animal health, and environmental governance systems.
  • Experience supporting workshops, trainings, and stakeholder consultations.
  • Strong problem-solving and follow-up skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear and actionable outputs.

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel domestically up to 25%
